I started C25K in June 2013, and did my first half marathon on Sunday! I can't tell you how emotional it was. The absolute best bit was running hard down towards the finish line being cheered on by friends! Then I burst into tears (again!)
I wasn't going to run as I hit a snag on a long run, regulars on here may remember my post- I frightened myself by not being able to walk straight or think straight. But what I did was to join the gym and I went to 3 classes a week and after a month I started to run to the gym (which took the emphasis off of running and allowed me to do it) so in the two months before the half I did 1 long run of 6.7 miles. So not ideal! But I screwed up my courage and did it. I ran for 10 miles before having to take some walk breaks.
It really was one of the best things I have ever done!
The furthest I had run prior to Sunday was 8 miles but I didn't get enough training in as I gave up at 8 miles thinking that I wouldn't enter, the weekend before I was talked into it!
But, WOW am I glad I was!
Well done to you, I saw your post the other day and wondered how many of us entered!
I haven't pre entered next years yet, BUT I have got a ballot place on the London :0) how chuffed am I!!! That's partly how I was talked into GWR to help me get over the nerves for the big day!
Wow, super well done! And thank you so much for sharing some of your story in terms of getting to this HM point. It really helps as a recent graduate to know that others have obstacles & challenges & to get ideas on ways to train, etc. thanks for posting x
On reflection, I didn't get a running water bottle early enough or sort out my food! That's partly why I crashed at 8 miles, that was 8 miles straight out of bed with half a cup of water! Writing it now is obvious to see that it would have happened sooner or later! What a nitwit! But getting back on my feet was really difficult. This running lark is a lot about your brain as your feet!
well done brilliant job. you deserve all the accolades
