I can't really afford to join the gym but this cold weather is not making running fun! I haven't been running for over a week :(

There's a lot good stuff that can be said about running on a treadmill at a gym. I hope you find it enjoyable :)

Having said that, you can buy a lot of cold-weather running gear for the cost of a gym membership ;-)

This is true of course :-) I'm just not sure ill drag myself out in the rain (although I have been to boot camp in the snow!) and hopefully my boyfriend and I will make use of the free squash time! If I don't use it then it's just 30 days notice to cancel ;)

No such thing as bad weather just incorrect clothing :)

I really dont mind either the rain or cold but dont like it too windy. Its the dark evenings and mornings that may force me to the gym in mid winter

If it keeps you running, go to the gym. Much better to be running on a treadmill than not all. Hope you get back to it soon

You just get used to the weather, you do really! I was a complete wuss, so I thought, but now it doesn't really bother me. It's not THAT cold yet - well not in the UK I mean

I used to dread the thought of running in the cold and was considering giving up for winter and restarting in spring. However with gentle persuasion from my dog (He is such a pest when he doesn't get his run!!!) we braved the sub zero temperatures we now have in Northern Sweden, and with the right clothing we are still enjoying it. OK, I am retired so I can pick and choose when I run, but now the question is at which temperature will I give running a miss?

It's like the dentist, the thought of it is worth than the actual fact. Give it a go and use the gym as a very last resort.

Happy running.

PS There is a saying in Sweden which says : "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!".

sidbetty, of course, you have to set your priority right and see what you can do.

I can afford it, but I think in terms of investing in myself, my health, as I have bronchiectasis, I must do something.

But there is a solution for you : I have found some Chinese exercises called Qigong and in that section something teh Chinese call the eight pieces of brocade.

Here's an explanation from Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badua...

and here's the video from You Tube:

The Chinese use exercises for medical purpose. That is why I sue this too, because of my lung problem. The particularity of these exercises is that it blends and emphasise breathing while doing the exercises. That's very powerful. Hope it helps.
