Only on week 3 but thoroughly enjoying myself. I never saw myself as a runner (being overweight and asthmatic) I struggle with the runs but I am slowly getting there. I used to stop running when anyone was about but now I just carry on which is another achievement for me.
week 3: Only on week 3 but thoroughly enjoying... - Couch to 5K
week 3
Good for you! I'm overweight, asthmatic, and old (66 y/o...but a young 66). I began running in July 2013. Did the C25k program and did my first 5k this past March. I'm in week 9 of this particular 5k coaching program (using it to correct my breathing).
Keep the good work. In a year, I went down in weight (sill overweight but losing), feel better mentally & physically, and have gone from 3 inhalers to 1 for my asthma (and don't even use it as much as I did in the past.)
The program works...let Laura guide & coach you.
Excellent, Bellycat - well done!
I'm another fatty-turned -runner. Started c25k last autumn & took it very slowly (had to leave at least 2 days between runs).
There were lots of times when I lost my mojo and didn't run for a few weeks, which made me feel miserable & bitterly disappointed with myself.
BUT each time I got back into it, and each time my first-run-for-ages was fine. Hard work, but perfectly do-able.
So if there's ever a time when your motivation flags, and you get out of your new-found running habit DON'T PANIC. Don't give yourself a hard time. Accept you'll have to take a few steps backwards, get yer trainers on, and get out that door.
PS couple of weeks ago I completed my first triathlon. Not bad for a fat bird...
I'm with you on being overweight and asthmatic but I'm just about to do Week 9 Day 2 - we CAN be runners!!
Good for you bellycat. I am right there too having asthma and carrying more pounds than I should but can confirm that this programme works. You say you struggle but slowly get there - well that's what it is all about - going at your own pace, the sense of achievement in getting there and the enjoyment. A huge well done - a great post
