Knackered, non-running version.

I walked miles round Glasgow for the Cycle racing yesterday. In my wellies in the rain. Now the balls of my feet and outsides of my little toes are blistered. That's in addition to the miles walked the other 2 days we spent at the games. (And the effort of moving house.)

I washed my Fitbit ONE the first day here though, so I don't know how far we walked.

I am done this week. Just done.

Oh, it was nice not to have to pay attention to the puddles and just walk on oblivious. To eat lunch, we found a place sheltered from the downpout, but we were standing ankle deep in water! My husband says i should hunt out some insoles and heavier socks.

Wellies are a new thing for me. When i lived on the east coast of the US, where we avoided rain by driving and i probably would have not gone to so ething like this, or would have worn sandals or cheap plimsolls and just been wet. Here, of course, i have to go out, but i have never spent a whole day in wellies. Likely wont again: few events smaller than the commonwealth games would be worth it!

On Sunday morning we, too, walked miles around the streets in Glasgow city centre as we followed the women's 98km road race. A great win by Lizzie Armitstead from England. The trailing cyclists (two Kenyans for many of the first few laps) got even bigger cheers as they passed the spectators on the 7-lap course. I think they must have been feeling the cold as they wore cycling tights under their shorts.

In the interval between the finish of the women's race and the start of the men's race we decided to visit Kelvingrove art gallery and museum. But it was closed to the public due to an event for the games (I bet some royal or bigwig was having lunch there!) Hubby suggested we walk along to the Transport Museum since they had a wee temporary exhibition about the last Games in India and linking it to Glasgow. This wa nice, but a fair old trek!

Wasn't that rain during the men's race awful? Torrential, horizontal rain for much of their race - bad even by West of Scotland standards. I'm afraid we didn't watch all of it as the rain was bad even for us, who are used to it, and we dived into a couple of small cafes for soup and tea at different points, simply to escape the worst of it. We saw the final few laps and saw the winner, Welsh team member, Geraint Thomas powering up the hill on the final lap of their 168km course.

I felt really sorry for those cyclists from much warmer climates, like the African countries, Pacific islands, Australasia - heck most of the rest of the competing countries! ;-)

In the men's race, the crowd support for the warm country racers, mostly at the back, was loud and long. That seemed to be the case at most events.

I enjoyed watching the cycling on telly! I'm getting to be quite a fan. I loved the TDF!

Wellies are horrible to wear for prolonged periods I reckon. They seem to suck the life out of your feet and legs don't they. I had to wear mine the other day as our utility got flooded out in a downpour.
