I cheated on running today.....

... and went for a wonderful walk instead! I met my sister - a seasoned walker -and we walked briskly along the Thames Path from Clifton Hampden to Days Lock in our pukka walking boots and (much-needed) wet-weather gear. We met some bullocks wandering free - 'You need to make yourself big' said Jill, holding her arms out to the sides. 'I thought that was for bears' said I - and suddenly remembered B3anyBoy. I hope he knows that.

We did a round trip of 6 miles, pretty briskly (with a couple of stops to admire the scenery and get ridiculously excited about the water going up and down in the lock) and it took us 2 hours, ending with a super pub lunch. I suddenly realised with a gulp that I will be RUNNING that far at the end of May in my London 10k race (hopefully in a BIT less than 2 hours!). But hopefully there won't be too many stiles, bullocks or foul-smelling mud along Victoria Embankment that day......but probably no pub lunch either :-(

How great that this programme is getting me all physical in my other activities. Previously we would have just met to go shopping :-)

Just as good for you walking as well as running, despite the weather.

glad you enjoyed it

I know what you mean about the pleasure to be derived from just moving more,. A chest infection stopped me doing much for about 10 days, but once I got over that, I walked my little dogs legs off every day after work, doing multiple laps of our usual hilly woodland evening walk, just out of the sheer pleasure of being able to get out and move briskly enjoying having lungs and legs that work more efficiently now!

Variety is the spice and all that! I'm off to London next weekend and hope to get in a run or two along the embankment myself. And lots of walking - tis a great city to explore. Will be a wonderful place to do your 10k!
