running bottoms advice for the overweight

Just wondering what tights/running trousers any ladies might recommend for a 5'2" size 16/18 female . I have been running in old trackie bottoms, which are fine until it rains, and they then absorb kilos of water. The thought of tights horrifies me! And they don't seem to come in large sizes. Any thoughts?

I'm sure Sports Direct do Capri's & tights in 16/18 - check out the karrimor range. Happy shopping! :-)

If you live near a Sainsburys they have something called scapris in their fitness range. They're capris with a very short skirt attached. Haven't got them myself but a woman I work with says they're really comfortable and mentally a bit less 'challenging' if you're a over a size 14. Could be worth a look next time you're getting your shopping

I like tesco's range.

I'm definitely a fan of the scapri or dress over tights.

I was having a nose around M&S this morning filling time before I collected my son and they had some loose fitting probably just below the knee fitness trousers, they seemed to have a tie around the bottom so you could tighten or loosen them as you liked. They also were in a wicking material. These might be better because they wouldn't be tight around the legs or bottom area maybe.

Karrimor go wrinkly and are not as thick as Nike running pants. Nike Filament pants and capri's hold everything in really well. I was stunned when I put them on as I had expected to resemble a bag of spuds. Also you can get a running top which is long - most of them are long to cover belly and bottom

Nike have one of those running skirts with the leggings underneath in a deep purple, and ruched on one side of fhe skirt. Looks very nice!

If you take up running, and keep at it, the weight will fall off!

I'm 5'2" same size and I have proper running capris (leggings) asda, tesco, sainsburys primark all go up to about a size 20 in their sports wear and even big brands will go up to at least an 18. Decathlon also another sports shop that has larger sizes. Also check out sports direct. I even got some leggings from lidl that fit.

Nike filament tights are fantastic , the large in the full length ones cover a 16/ 18 well, they are very comfortable and flattering . Next do own brand leisure / gym t shirts that come below bum length for the not so confident.

I'd definitely recommend running tights/capris - They hold any wobbly bits still which I've found to be much comfier than running in looser attire!

I love my karrimor running gear its cheap from sports direct and its comfy and does the job. I have a long vest top with built in support which really holds things in place. Love the other suggestions of scarpis too.

I needed a 22, and ended up with Nike tights size XL purchased at Sports Direct. I was so incredibly pleased that the XXL were too large! there was XXXL to be pleased at not needing as well. I am 5'5" and they are a little long in the leg, so probably more so for you. But they will fit around your round bits, as they fit round mine. They are quite squeezy, so the net effect is less bobbly and wobbly than in a loose track suit type bottoms. An unexpected plus as i expected the round bits to bulge. Still, when it was colder, i was glad for a jacket that went past my hips, now i wear the longest shirt i can find.

Marks and spencer do sports wear in all sizes. I have a light weight pair of track suit bottoms that I run in from them. I also got some long t shirts. They are nice and loose to run in. they also so the light weight sports t shirts

Try TK Maxx - a bit of a lottery and a scramble but they can have good stuff heavily discounted. Also Decathlon if there is one near you. Sweatshop have a sale on just now too.

I wear Sainsbury's cotton full length leggings except when it is very warm. I got a tip from here when I first started about M&S cotton firm support knickers which made it a lot more comfortable a) to glance in the mirror and b) run.

I am a little wary of shorter bottoms - the only time I have calf twinges is when I don't have my calves covered. (Although Sainsbury's do shorter leggings)

I am running in a long pink cotton vest top, six quid from marks. It's long enough for me to wipe my sweaty face with it! They do the same one in grey but i went for the pink as I thought I could be more easily seen in traffic

My husband pointed out I could be seen from Mars!

Cheek!

I am a size 16, 5 feet 3. I run mostly indoors, and in dry weather if outdoors, but I find my combat trousers very comfy. I got mine from Adsa for £10. They are nice and cool.

Thank you all for your advice. I've just got some size 18 capri trousers from Sainsbury's. It was the only six they had. They will need to go back though, as the waist is much too big, although the rest of them fit. I've ordered some Nike filament trousers/tights from Evan's Cycles - some good reductions there at the moment, if anyone else is interested.
