Week 2 - worried!

I know this is a bit silly as I'm sure the program is designed to ease you in but - I've just finished w2 s1 (found it MUCH easier than w1 overall) but I can't say I'm not glad to see the end of those 90 second runs and right now 25 minutes straight running just seems a ridiculous leap that I'll never achieve...

Don't look so far ahead... Concentrate on one run at a time and complete each week. You will be surprise what you can achieve in just a few weeks.

Lets us know how you are getting on. keep going, you can do it!

Trust in Laura & the programme

I might be misquoting a Chinese leader when I say "A run of 30 minutes starts with a run of 60 seconds". There are 10,000 members of this forum, and I bet every one of us looked at the program and said 'gulp'. Every week starts with a leap of faith, but you will learn to trust Laura, and develop amazing running confidence. Do try and change your route (or head outside if you run on a treadmill) so that you don't get bored with your running. And if a run is too much, then repeat it or step back to the previous run and build your stamina and strength gradually.

Make sure that you have your rest days, and I found that it helped having 2 days off before starting the next week. That extra day of rest gives you more energy for the first run each week when you are running for the longer time & for the first time.

It really will not be long until you conquer W5r3.

Dont think too much or too far ahead. Pretty much everyone on the programme has been where you are. The programme is designed for people like us - its a very gentle increment that pushes you enough, but not too much - the fact that W2 was easier than W1 for you is proof of that. Just trust the programme and trust your body. If you're lacking motivation, just browse some of the posts here - some members stories are truly amazing - if they can do it you can.

WARNING:

Looks to me like the Gremlins are at work!

They sit on your shoulder or in your head and try to sap your confidence to make you give up.

They try it with everyone...

Do not let them win.

Hi there. I know exactly what you mean as I kept looking ahead to the 20m run in week five and thinking there was no way I was going to manage it. Even when I set off on the run I kept thinking I can't do this, but somehow the programme gets you through and prepares you for it. Don't look too far ahead, keep up with the programme week by week and you'll surprise yourself!

Take it a run at a time, I have just started week 8 and I was very doubtful I could get this far when I started. The programme really does work - I am an overweight fiftysomething who has never run before. I have found each week a challenge - the first run of week 1 I thought the minute would never end!

You really can do it. Some runs will be easier than others, but don't worry about it, slow your pace if need be, and do have the rest days.

good luck - you CAN do it!
