My running is carrying on and I am starting to be tempted by GPS watches.....does anyone have any thoughts to share on whether they are useful/motivating? I was looking at a garmin one which worked out your vo 2 max.

Sports watches
Well I've been researching them for a few weeks now and, as a graduation present to myself (I've only just graduated today), I'll be treating myself to one and probably ordering it tonight
There have been a few posts lately from members who have them and they seem to be confirming that they can be motivating and useful. I suppose it all depends on what you are wanting. I take it you are aware of the various phone apps out there that also offer similar features but maybe on a lesser scale?
Hi Paul well done on graduating! I can't see how to search for a subject on the new layout to look for other posts.
Hi, I'm still on the 'old' site but I've found the most recent post which you may find useful..... If the link works

PS thanks
well done Paul and Willica on completing the programme. I bought a garmin 310XT from Amazon for about £110 pounds a couple of weeks ago. It includes a heart rate monitor (which I haven't used yet). It is meant for running, cycling and swimming, but I will only be doing the running. Waterproof and a 20 hr battery life, which I will use on long walks. It isn't pretty, I think I will gradually start to use more of the functions. If you think you will use the extra functions, this is a bargain at the moment , but if you won't, and you want something more petite, maybe not.
I bought a Garmin 220 as a graduation present to myself after my iPhone had refused to start runkeeper on my first (and only so far) sponsored 5k.
It's far, far more convenient to have real buttons rather than a touch screen hidden behind a plastic window on an arm band, and with the display being on the wrist, I now find that I regularly check my pace and distance during the run. Also, the GPS functionality is far more accurate than what an iPhone can provide. So all in all, I'd recommend it.
Hi willica
I have the Forerunner 10 and it does everything I need it to so. I do a mix of treadmill and outdoor (when I can). So for outdoors the Garmin is great and tells me how far, how fast ( not very in my case) and more. It doesn't have a heart rate monitor but I decided I didn't need that. I used it for walking one day and it told me I was "behind pace" which cheered me up no end as I maybe do run faster than I walk. Not sure if this is any help.
