hip bursitis

after getting the results from xray no fracture but i have hip bursitis so ive not run for a week and afraid its down to over doing it again, the doctor i see was very good she s a runner herself told me off for over doing it and fact that i ran 3 halfs in a 2 week period was too much ,tonight i shall try and run 2 mile and see how it feels then have 2 days rest if it returns i shall have injections from what i read they seem to work fingers crossed my next half is on july 6 so i might make it :) happy running all

  • The injections don't work for everyone, didn't help me :( I ended up having ultra sound therapy and that did help along with rest and physio, since I started running it's all calmed down and haven't had a problem. Hope it gets better soon

  • thanks how long were you out for

  • it was before I started running and was combined with chronic back pain so I cant give a definite time frame but I was in pain for maybe a year, I wasn't really until I started running that I became pain free, it flared at first but I was taking longer rest breaks and that seemed to help

  • ok ive just done 5k had pain when started but eased off will see gp tomorrow and rest for 2 days i dont think im going to make my half in july

  • Try ice to reduce inflammation and take anti inflamatories if you can

  • ive been doing the ice thing for a week and already on nprox gp said rest for a week and then try to run but if pain is on going to go back for injections she s a runner as well

  • So sorry to read about your injuries. Hope they mend soon!

  • thanks frannyfran injection on the 23rd and a visit to a sports physio and no running till them

  • Try wetting a hand towel (wring out the excess water) and pop it into the freezer for a couple of hours. For a large area like a hip it will wrap around and be better than ice packs perhaps.

  • What a brilliant idea.

  • thanks old girl will give it a go
