Ok did 3.5 km in 40 minutes that was 30 running and 2 x5 warm up, I do race for life on July 13th. I started C25K on 16th April and could hardly lift my foot off the ground, now Im running like a snail for 30 minutes but doing it ( so proud of me ) Anyway my question is how long can I expect the 5K to take me in July ? Anyone help ?

Hey Grannyjudes! :-) Sadly I'm unable to answer your question as I think there's far too many variables, but I would say that if possible, try not to focus too much on distance and speed. Until July (and, well, beyond!) just build on your brilliant achievements so far and on the day, do what you normally do, and really, really enjoy yourself, as ultimately, as far as I'm concerned, that's what our running passion is all about! :-)

Totally agree with Miles_Yonder in that I can't answer the question either!! :|

I have no idea how many k's I do as I haven't a gadget that tells me I just know that I can do 12 (but for 3 steps) circuits of the local amateur football club's pitch in 28 minutes!! so am hoping that I can do 13 maybe 14 in 30? Not sure will reserve judgment until the day (Thursday 5th is the first one).

Whatever your time the main thing is (a) you enjoy doing it; (b) you are taking part and (c) you will be running 5K - how wonderful will that be!! :) :D

You are both so right and I sound so competitive which I am, but only against myself. How others do I find fascinating reading etc, but not in a competitive way, the only person I compete against is me

You sound like you're doing marvellously to me! Sorry i don't have much technical info either but i reckon by July you'll have no probs with 5k! :) you are right to be proud ...............

I guess its what you are aiming for....do you want to get faster? If so do the Speed podcast once a week, that will really help. Otherwise just work on increasing the duration of your runs which will help too... good luck :)

I'm granny-aged and slow. I graduated 2 or 3 weeks ago and took 30 mins to do 3k. I just kept doing the 30 min and added 3 mins at a time . I did 5k last week for the first time and it took 45 mins. I just mention it as we may be similar fitness/ability etc. But the others are right, just build up slowly and try to keep enjoying it. I'm loving playing around with various styles and ratios of walk/run intervals. Happy running for all! X

I think I will do 30 minutes on a familiar run, see just how far I get, that might give me some idea , thanks all

I would n't worry about it. I did a the run for life in Hyde park a few years back.It was a great experience and although I walked some of it I still finished behind others but ahead of many...just enjoy the day!!!

From previous experience I end up ruining faster at events like race for life. It must be all the people around running and cheering. Last year I was only on week 6 or so and did rfl in 35 minutes, which was amazing as my goal was 45. This year I just completed 10km in under an hour while training alone always took me much more.

Good luck and enjoy the race, don't worry about speed!
