bad knee and giving up?

I have developed a pain in my right knee and am thinking of giving up. Its a pity because was really enjoying the runs - week 4 run 2 completed

any suggestions

That's such a shame. I'd seek advice from doctor, esp if you want to carry on and enjoy it so much..

My first suggestion would be dont quit ! I was exactly the same, I rested it until it felt fine, ( about a frustrating week ) I bought knee supports from the pound shop as I was advised they were as good as the expensive ones and they were, I started stretching after runs which was something Id neglected. I was going to the doctor but after the rest and the knee supports and ibuprofen it cleared. I believe its your body or knees getting use to the pounding your giving them, as you get fitter it should subside ( well in my experience ) good luck, hope this helps

DON'T QUIT! REPEAT - - DO NOT QUIT!!!!

Take some time out and rest your knee for a few days. Ice pack or frozen peas on it 3 times per day for 15 mins.

If it IS giving you major jip (pain/discomfort/slang term) , then see your Doctor. It could be an array of factors than need considering.

grannyjudes speaks positively about a knee support so you could also try that.

Please please don't quit!! I've moaned on and on about my dodgy knees for weeks on here but do you know what? R.I.C.E. really does work. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Get yourself some ice packs or a couple of bags of frozen peas and get yourself some Tubigrip. Then sit down, elevate your leg and surround your knee with ice packs or frozen peas. Stay like that for at least an hour then put the Tubigrip on over your knee double thickness and put the ice packs back in the freezer. Go back and sit back with your leg elevated. As soon as the packs have refrozen take the Tubigrip off and repeat the whole procedure all day. Trust me, it works, I ran 5k today. Just make sure you get the right size Tubigrip so you don't cut off the circulation to your leg oh and make sure you wear it when you're running for a bit of extra support. Good luck. I agree with everyone. Extra rest, ice ( as often as possible) ibuprofen and a support. I would also get checked by your doc or a physio. Don't give up if you are enjoying it, it is probably just your knees way of complaining that you are using them and the muscles round about strenghening. Keep on going

With all the above advice taken into account, if you can carry on, then you will find that the benefits of doing C25k change your life in so many positive ways. It is worth persevering. Good luck.
