W5R2 - in the bag!
Congratulations You'll love the next one. The jump seems huge but not as huge as the satisfaction at the end of it. Despite being a macho type I was actually welling up after my 20 min run. I was bounding around feeling very proud of myself. Make sure you give yourself a reward after the next one - you'll have really earned it.
What a lovely idea phillyq, carrot and stick always works! Hmmmmm what shall I choose?
Oh wow I am right behind you R4 W2, and dont if I should be apprehensive or excited ! Well done
Good luck for your 20mins. I dreaded it but it was fine. The sense of achievement will set you up for the rest of the day.
Well done on your second run of W5. Sounds as though you are enjoying yourself. Do you find the extra rest days make a big difference because I am thinking about cutting my running down to 2 days a week to give my legs a bit more of a chance. I noticed that you are making steady progress without some of the ups and downs that happen at times. I am pleased you're looking forward to the 20 minute run - it's a major turning point in the programme and that's when you really will feel the progress you have made. Good luck and best wishes.
Hi Fitmo, as you know I have to be so careful not to cause anymore damage to my knee, so I am running just twice a week - on one run, I gave myself just one days rest and I found that my legs were very tired and tight, my kneecap was very sore and I was worried that I had done some harm. My body doesn't seem to forget the stamina I have built up by having a longer break, I feel fresher, and I am really up for running. The downside is that sometimes I would like to go out for a long power walk or small jog but fear I am going to undo the rest I have had- but then again I dance up to three times a week for 3 - 4 hours, but I am probably using my legs in a different way. Perhaps now that you are doing much longer runs you would benefit from a longer break?
Thank you for the information. I think you're right and that I would benefit from a longer break now I'm doing the longer runs. As somebody once said - no point going headlong for a brick wall. I had four full days rest the last time but that was because I'd had several bad runs. The extra time did make a difference as my legs felt a lot lighter. I also do other exercise on non running days, cycling, Pilates, walking - all low impact and which uses different muscles from the running. I last ran on Sunday so I'll leave it until Wednesday before having another go. Best wishes.
You will smash it Lottidog, well done ! xxx
