I have been enjoying Parkrun so much, the people who go are the most +ve I have ever come across. So I thought I would start to volunteer - they are always looking for volunteers. I did one week as a "Marshal" -- but they din't give me a badge or a gun. And I didn't get to have a run -- but now I have found the position just made for me where I can do the volunteer job and run as well. .. . Tail-end Charlie, the Sweeper or in officialese, the "Tailrunner" -- I can do that job really well!!! I reckon that most here could also do it very well at their local Parkruns.

Found a volunteer position at Parkrun
Well done - sounds like the best of both worlds I'm looking forward to being able to one when able - the local one (Worcester) is only about a 1-2 miles up the road. I need to expand my (non-existent) social circle and, other than the health side of starting to be more serious about my health, I hope I can make some friends out of it too.
Hi Andrew! I can recommend you go to your local one. I am sure they would welcome another volunteer, if you are still not able to run. Mine is a very friendly one and I have found other people to chat to so I am sure you would get loads of new friends. Do you know if they all go for a coffee or something after?, again, another chance for a bit of social! Hope you are getting on ok and will be back running soon. x
Yes go for it astilla, I've enjoyed marshalling when injured - it's a good way to keep part of running when you can't.
What a great idea bazza , I might see if there's a place at ours for one of them . But when I did one , first before my injury , there def wasnt one because there was definitely no one behind me all the way lol .
That's an important role though Baz, the stragglers are the ones needing the encouragement most, so good for you matey!
I've not done a Parkrun yet Astilla but it's on my to-do list, but for the moment I am not able to get on a Saturday morning but hope to be very soon. I think you should get signed up for the next one as you've been running for a while and you'd enjoy yourself. I think once you did it you would get the bug. If you run regularly then your health will benefit. I lost another 1.5 lbs last week !
Well done for volunteering and enjoy being tailrunner.
