Another day off or not?

After coming back from week 2 run 1 with a very painful and tender knee on Friday, I'm wondering whether I should go out for run 2 today or have another rest day! My knee is not feeling too bad infact its my calfs that feel a little tight today.. so what would you do? Give it a go or wait another day?

You are bound to feel sore from your running because your body is not yet accustomed to doing it and it's a very very common complaint from people new to running or indeed any form of exercise.

I felt so sore in the first 3 weeks to the point of yelping in my sleep when I moved because I was so sore! I was so eager though and in order to keep on doing it, I resorted to wearing knee bandages. These helped enormously but an extra day when needed is extremely beneficial. In fact, by allowing your body to recover, heal and repair itself ahead of your next run often means you feel much stronger. It also means you are less likely to suffer from serious injury.

Hi Emma, I feel your pain ! I think I would advise caution to be honest. I ran yesterday and my right calf is tight today. I am due to run tomorrow, but I will see how I am. I can always go Tuesday if not. So personally I would wait another day and just give it a bit more time to recover. Hope you feel better soon , if youre anything like me I cant wait to get out again ! Good Luck xx

You know your own body best but I echo the previous replies and would advise erring on the side of caution. It's frustrating, I know, but for the sake of 24 hours it is not worth the risk of further injury. Hope it's okay for Tuesday and best wishes.

Tuesday??? that will be the 4th day!! Will I have to re-do week 1 do you think?

Sorry, I think I got my days muddled a bit! And, no, you certainly wouldn't need to go back to week 1 even after several days rest. Cheers.

Hi there, I was going to get up an go this morning but my knee is a bit twingy again! Not sure what I should do, I think I may go get a knee support today and see how that feels. I'm glad I didn't go last night but gutted I might not be able to do today also.
