....... I've recently been thinking about what to do on my rest days. Now last year I got back into the saddle when I wasn't running - which lasted for all of 3 weeks until an off put paid to that - although I was on a home made hybrid bike using a £40 scrapper of t'ebay - a heavy old lump.
Now that I'm getting back into the swing of things, running again out there on the tow path I'm wondering what else to do - so in addition to my HM in October I'm thinking of something a bit more - you know - running is good, but I know that I cannot run every single day.
and I asked myself what would I want to be doing next year?
So have decided today that I am going to start training for Triathlon - the olympic distance one with the 10k run at the end. I know I can do all the distances separately and it's not going to be too easy to do them all back to back, so my target is going to be for Autumn 2015 - 18 months from now.
So I'm about to order a bike through the work scheme - nothing too fancy, just a reliable road bike which can take the miles, and just like I did with Laura and C25k, I'm going to start steady, build time and distance each week.
Good luck to all you brave people down in London tomorrow - I really hope you have a blast.
You sound really fired up, which is exciting.....and definately get a nice shiny new bike that will go the miles..and serve you well..... So good to have an aim for next year...I have done similar and signed up for the Paris marathon!!!! Every respect to train for a triathalon, not something I could do as I am crap at riding! Good luck!!!
Wow Olympic triathlon I am in awe. I am training for a sprint in august, just a little baby one. I must admit I am loving the diversity of training. I started using a training plan but have ended up adapting it a bit to take Into consideration my weak points. I am a strong swimmer but weak on the other two so I was finding I needed a bit more running training. Good luck and keep us all posted.
Well I read about the sprint and thought I'm not too fast bust I can do distance. And that's what I mean to about doing something extra, more than just running.
I'm fairly rubbish at swimming, but the theory is build stamina and endurance through running and cycling and the swimming will Improve.
Good luck too and I will do.
Good luck with your training plan, hope all goes well. Best wishes.

Thanks Fitmo, hopefully I've got enough time to get there.
Good luck! It'll be an absolute blast! I did my first one, only a sprint distance one, last Sunday, it was brilliant! Great fun. Been looking for another to sign up for but the 'next' (end of April) one was a 3am start from here so a bit silly. There's one local to here (July, again sprint distance but a bit further on the swim and ride) that I'm thinking of signing up for, did most of the bike ride today, more hills than the last one but doable. Now if I could only figure out how to stop myself swallowing Mercer Lake (last week's one was pool based) I'd be there like a shot!
