decided to run the leeds half marathon in may.....never run before in my life...I have now stopped smoking and am doing a 12 week training plan......
swapped smoking for jogging :): decided to run... - Couch to 5K
swapped smoking for jogging :)

Stick with this programme, it will get you easily to 5k, then you can move up to the distance you require. I stopped a 30 year 20 a day habit in September (also 2 stone overweight) and started couch in October. I graduated early December and until Sunday was running 5k 3 times a week. It is do good programme to follow. Good luck
ive had to take a week out to recover from chest infection cant wait to get back out and start again...and thank you
I feel your pain. I fell during a run on Sunday and cracked a rib, really struggling with not running and substituting running with wine againol
If my experience is anything to go by, you'll find chest infections become a thing of the past once your lungs recover from the smoking. I had got up to 40 a day during a bad time of life, but stopped in June 2010. What I really notice now is how running gets harder for a while if I have to run past someone smoking in the street. It's a good demonstration of what smoking does to you.

As you go through the programme, you will amaze yourself with what you can do. I too have just signed up for my first half marathon in May. The longest run that I've done so far is 10.5miles but i'm sure i'll be able to up that by another 3. It's my first organised run also so looking forward to it.
Good luck and stick with it. I promise that it will get easier and you will find that chest infections will be a thing of the past.
I'm so pleased that you have stopped smoking.
I wish you EVERY success in the half-marathon, and good luck with your training.
Lastly, keep us informed on your training and on the run itself.
GOOD LUCK!
A half marathon. Wow...you're braver than I.
Good luck with the training plan.
