ICE COLD AIR IN LUNGS

I run in the mornings - around 6.30am and it is sooooo cold lately. Is it bad to inhale such freezing air when running? Should one don some sort of facial mask to inhibit the icy air penetrating one's internal organs?

I use a Buff pulled up over my mouth and nose when cycling when it's below freezing. I know some runners do too. When the Buff it gets a bit soggy you can pull it off and wrap it around your wrist or stuff it in a pocket. Then fling it in the washing machine with your running gear.

Yes! I have a neck tube that I use whilst riding my scooter. I will use that! Thanks.

I use a buff too Dan, icy hold air into your tubes and lungs makes for much harder breathing. They are so lightweight and will pop into a pocket if your neck gets too warm. Can be used in many different ways too.

I used my neck tube this morning and after ten minutes I was too hot! So I pulled it off.

I think I may have to get one of these buffs too, sounds like a plan - would put it on my xmas list but there's a cold blast heading our way Friday so I hear, brrrrrrr.......

Hi Dan,

I use a buff too in the colder weather and it helps enormously to stop the burning sensation in your lungs. And then when you are all hot and overheated you simply pull it up and use it like an Alice band to keep your flowing locks out of your eyes. This must be done in a properly co-ordinated manner. Mine is cerise to match my glowing pink face!

If you run with earphones in you must put it on after the earphones (i.e over the wires) - or you'll have the very divil to get it off whilst running! Good luck! I love the cold but bought gloves too in the Aldi sale. (They have to go in me bra when I get too hot!)

Flowing locks? The nearest I get to those nowadays is a canal side!

I've stopped wearing a bra when running. I got too many funny looks......

I never thought of the bra as my running storage area Beek! It's obvious really! Brilliant!

Eek, it's not uncommon for my phone to be stored there!! It does not work on a run though!!!!!!!!

Buffs are way better than they appear at first sight and I love mine. I just noticed that Aldi are doing a "multi function headband" for £2.99 ( a buff by any other name) from this Thursday and if it is of their normal quality (good) then will be a snip against a genuine Buff. I might even get one to compare to the ridiculously expensive piece of fabric that my brand addicted son gave to me a couple of years ago. Unlike Beek, my buff is black to match the rest of my cat burglar running gear. I do get some strange looks while I am on my warm down walk along the streets, with head torch and black Lycra. Mind you six months ago, I would have been suspicious of any weirdo dressed in such a manner.

Cat burglar? Now there's a look!

Better than "in the Buff at Aldi" I suspect!

I got the Aldi buff a little while ago, works for me! Are they stocking running gear again?

Lidl had ski wear this week, I bought a top and its brilliant, very comfortable and draws the moisture away perfectly. £8.99

Man (or this woman) cannot live by one Buff alone... so worth getting one now and asking for another for Christmas. TBH I think I am rapidly reaching the point where I could go out wearing 4 or 5 at once (they make rather good fingerless gloves)

I wonder if it is possible to wear only buffs while running.......that is to be in the buff.......apart from the buffs, of course.

I did see a picture somewhere on tinternet of a very skinny lady that had a buff as a skirt and another as a top, don't know if she could run though, but I bet there were a few fellas that would chase her : )

It wasn't Lady Gaga was it?

> Man (or this woman) cannot live by one Buff alone...

Exactly! Two, three or more - in all colours of the rainbow and more! At this time of year I wear two when cycling - one over my head under my helmet, and one around my neck (which gets changed for the thermal one when it gets even colder) Plus I also keep two in my rucksack as you never know when you need any extra layer(s) when out hillwalking or running.

One wears a buff when out on one's motor-scooter, don't y' know. Keeps the cold air out of one's bronchi a treat.

Yay! Buffs rule! I wonder where that lovely link is to the man demonstrating them that I found way back last winter...

Here it is.

I do not have shares in buffs. I just think it's funny. Especially the pirate hat bit.

really great. Do you think you can do that with an Aldi's one?

Depends how long it is? No harm having a go!

Haha loved this video -his poses for makeup wearers is hilarious -not sure I'll ever remember all the folds and twists for each look though - standard over the neck for me I think.

I love the idea of a buff but I think it would suffocate me? Ear muffs might be better?
