I have completed wk6 run 2 and tomorrow am going out for run 3. I don't seem to be getting any quicker - at the moment I have run 20 mins and done 2.85km - is this normal or should I be getting quicker ??

Doesn't matter how slow, just keep moving ;-) Worry about speed after you graduate, and then don't worry about it too much.

Totally normal! I am slow too. I graduated this morning, but only did 4k. The important thing is to complete each podcast, not speed or distance. Just keep it up!

As a very wise person said on here recently, you are only going too slow if you are sitting on your bum! Main thing is you kept moving for 20 mins! You are doing really well; speed will come later.

Hear hear to all the above comments- you were out there doing it - that is what counts. Very few of us do amazing times at gradation- that comes later - I am still working on the going faster plan :-)

You're running for a lot longer without breaks than when you started the program so I think it is only to be expected that you need to slow down a bit so that you can pace yourself. Don't worry about speed until after you graduate (and even then don't worry too much), you're still working on stamina/endurance at the moment so the main thing is learning to be consistent. You're doing fine, you should be feeling pleased with yourself :-)

Well Week 9 I could only do about 4 k in 30 mins. To get to the magic 5k mark i had to run for 42 mins in week 10. So your speed sounds normal to me! Don't forget it's the increasing time and endurance that is important, building up your stamina. Personally I'm not trying for speed at all at the moment (wk 11) as I think running for longer is most important for my current level of fitness , and less likely to result in injury. When I get bored with the speed I'm jogging at, then I'll run faster.

Unless stationary objects start passing you then you aren't too slow. You'll be much quicker than your sitting on the couch self so don't worry and congratulate yourself on how well you are doing :)

I agree with all the above comments :-) If you are out there and moving , you can only be doing good things for your health and well being ....keep moving :-)

As per most comments, speed is low priority ~ distance is more important. Speed WILL come in time.

Well done on your achievemengts to date, keep going and keep us informed.

speed is not relevant, distance is key, you are capable of running 5K by the end of week 8 it could however take you anything between 20-60 minutes :-) Think not about the time but about how much fun you are having and the freedom of the run :-)

I remember how an old man out walking his dog was walking faster than I was running and how frustrated I was, I ended up running too fast to compensate and burning out of the run, now I just run for me however long it takes :-)
