W7R1 miserable fail...

Today I delivered my first fail. I was a bit unsure as to whether I should venture out as my calf muscles were still a bit tight from Pilates, but I decided to go for it anyway.

My second mistake was to change my route (at Laura's suggestion) so I turned right instead of left. I was doing ok until at 15 minutes in I encountered a hill, and my legs refused to carry me up it! My 3rd and final mistake was to decide to cut across a farmers field (to avoid another hill) and that slowed me down to a complete walk, complete with very wet feet.

The only good thing was the final stretch home as it was a great downhill run!

I think I'm going to make sure that I have fully recovered (maybe by Christmas?) before going out again. I really don't want to let myself down again...

Poor you, and yet you managed to get to the end. Yes, you had to walk a wee bit but you got there, and ended with a run. So really under the circumstances you did alright! Once or twice I have been aching after my yoga on a saturday and it has definitely affected my run. Mostly by putting me a bit 'off balance'. Maybe an extra day off would make a difference? Good luck with the next run, I am sure it will be better.

That's not failure; maybe a setback. But you have learnt loads. I would go back to your old route as you need a confidence boost. You have done well if you read what you tried. Laura would look for the positives so use those to get back out there. But take an extra day for those sore muscles.

Oh Lordy, I changed my route in week 8 run 3 and failed the run too, I was devastated!! I took the advice on here, put it behind me, went back to my usual route and everything was fine again!! Onwards and upwards !!

It's a bit like falling off your bike - get straight back on!! Just remember how far you've come from week 1. Merely repeat the failed one on your usual route. I failed on week 4 run 2 because I was on holiday, had a bout of sciatica and didn't know the terrain. So I left it until I got home and backtracked a couple of weeks. You've only failed one and even then, you did go out and do it! The real failure is not to go out there and try! I'm now back to week 5 and have run 2 tomorrow. You are further on than me!! So Sunday W7R1? YES! Go for it.

Thanks all for the great advice. I do intend to be out there tomorrow, and I have forgotten how far I've come. I was reading another post where they feeling good about being able to run for 5 minutes, and I remember exactly what that felt like, and I can easily now run 5 minutes without a second thought, so I have progressed!

I will return to my old stomping ground and hopefully success will follow. Thanks for the support everyone!
