Just wanted to share my Parkrun result...30 minutes and 48 seconds.I know its not amazing like some of you but for me its a huge milestone, and a new PB. I was really hoping that my Cornish trail obstacle course runs had helped... it was a fabulous parkrun as there was a couple who met at parkrun getting married the next day and everyone wore bridal nets and dicky bows. There was a real buzz in the air.
I was powered by my new album, 'Ministry of sound Mash up Mix Ibiza' Yes I know I should be listening to music more appropriate for my age, but I'm not so keen on my age so I don't.
I really felt it in my legs on the run, and as the course is uphill all the way its really hard to keep up the pace. I was asking my son Leon who is 11 and has a PB of 25 minutes at Parkrun what his top tips were. He said, 'Mummy when you feel tired and want to slow down just go faster'...oh right OK, thanks for that Leon!!! And the other one is,' Don't let anyone overtake you mummy'. So with my best boys tips on board I went for it..... I so love my boy...he starts secondary school in September, and I don't want to 'lose' him. Running keeps us close. After Parkrun I took him to the Lido and he managed to swim a kilometer having not swam for ages, he is very determind. We enjoyed Turkish eggs, green tea ( me), toast, jam and a hot chocolate ( him) after in the cafe....happy days.
Anyway, my brother in law works at the Eden Project and he suggested I do the half marathon there. I think I'm going to sign up, and I just wondered if anyone else is doing it...or wants to join me?????? Link below:
Right, back to sorting out my return to work tomorrow...I only have one skirt that fits me due to the weightloss from running, so I am treating myself to a few new things...Isn't running just the best!!!
The pic is from the parkrun Flickr album of me and my mate Nicola really going for it at Parkrun.
Enjoy the rest of your weekends everyone

That's a bloomin good 5K time Juju - and a bloomin' great pic too. You look totes amaze balls (I refuse to bow to the demands of my age too hence the "teen" speak) and very "runner'ish". Leon's tip was a good one, albeit bloody hard to put into practice!
Half marathon? Isn't that about 1000 miles?
Oh! Congrats on weight loss too. I wish I could shed a few pounds, but I live in hope. Get yourself out to the shops soon and shop 'til you drop!
Thanks Dan .... Lovin the teen speak!!!... I hate shopping and do it all online so all done thanks to Boden ( now I am showing my age!!!). I lost the weight using myfitnesspal otherwise it would never have come off as I lurvvve food. And yes I am a bit nuts aren't I for wanting to do a HM... Something to aim for though to keep me out of mischief!!
Well done on the new personal best time and nice picture (which one are you ?)
If you ever have the "if I was your age" chat with your speedy son you could try this which will tell you how fast you might have run at that age - runningforfitness.org/calc/...?
Eden Project sounds like good fun - hope you enjoy it.
Thank you... And that's me on the right and my rather lovely ( and much younger) friend Nicola on the left. Thanks for the link that's really interesting....yes training starts now for Eden, can't wait!!
Congratulations on the time! Leon not only has great times he is also a budding running coach.
Regarding your times, you can get your age grading time from your Parkruns results page. That is your time as a % of the world record for your age group. That % is what you should use to compare your times to others.
By PB is 50.8% and I'd guess yours might be better!
Thank you... Yes he's the best running buddy although at parkrun he's allowed to run off and leave me!!! My grading is 50.4% ( 40- 44) age category, I guess that's ok but I'd like to improve...
That's a great time (and a new PB - always good!) and a great pic - you look like an athlete, which is of course what us C25K'ers now are. I like Leon's "just go faster" tip; must try to put that into practice.
Thank you so much... That means so much. Hard to believe we are 'runners' ever since Laura said it in .. Week 6 I think?? I can remember crying!!! I know.. I'm a bit sad! I love Leon's simplistic view on things, he has a great way of describing which I'm sure is partly due to his dyslexia, he can think differently...
Thank you so so much Honorsmum...I'm proud of my boy, but as a mum I would be even if he didn't do anything!!! That's being a parent isn't it?? We love them whatever.. Thank you for the lovely comments
Wow you do really look like a runner and well done with wieght loss hoping mine will start to fall off soon will have to look at my fitness pal great pb too your be sub 30 before you know it x kate x
Thank you so much Kate.. I never thought I'd lose the weight as I love wine and chocolate...But my running gives me the calories to have the wine!!!!!! Sub 30... Now that would be amazing!!!! Good luck you too xxx
Omg forgot to say leons only 11 and running such fab times hes great I have a lad that runs my route sometimes and when he speds past me I look like im walking lol
Fab time and fab picture! Very inspiring! Enjoy the new clothes, my next project is to loose some more weight, I've dropped a dress size since I've starting running, but actually put on weight according to the scales......need to get that sorted!!!!!
Thank you... And well done that's a great achievement.. That's probably due to fat turning to muscle... I'd go with how you feel, not what the scales say. And well done on the fags
After you gave me advice on increasing my distance by 10 percent (where is that key) I thought I would follow the Juicyju training plan, but I might try the Leon training plan now. It certainly gets results. And I must try a Parkrun soon.
Wow,you look amazing in that pic,juicyju.....really slim, but kind of athletic and strong at the same time.Love the fact that you now have to shop for new stuff as only one skirt fits...it's a win win situation with this running lark...how did we ever cope without it ??
Leon sounds like a great lad ,bless him,he has far to go I think.Wonderful to have the shared interest in running, long may it last for you both.
Half marathon at the Eden Project......how cool is that for a venue ?
Great post, fizzing with energy as usual and spurring me on to my first run of W8 tomorrow.
Thank you so much Carolecal, lovely words...and how did you get on today???
Well...Turkish eggs is...2 poached eggs on a bed of garlicky, cardamon and spicy stylie tomato sauce with sour yog and sourdough toast...it really is the dogs b******
Oh Lord,I wish I hadn't asked !! I follow the 5:2 and today is one of my 'fast/light' days , total 500 cals ( my sis calls them "starve days") and those Turkish eggs on sourdough sound too good.....groan
I did my W8 R1 this morning, not bad ,but a bit of a late one last night and a bit more wine than usual ......but I did it and R2 on Wednesday morning will be better( thankyou for asking !).
well done Juicyju, brilliant park run time. My first parkrun was on week1 run1 of the programme (I like to do things differently) and I did a time of 48 mins plus. Last week I did my 4th and got a PB of 42mins40. I am currently on week 7 and due to do run 3 next. I haven't lost any weight, disappointingly, but I think I may return to myfitnesspal as well, just to keep me on the straight and narrow. Wishing you success in your future challenges of a marathon. xx
Thankyou..and thats really impressive to do a parkrun so early....and good luck on week 7...I think Myfitnesspal is fab, I never would have lost the weight without that!! What spurred me on was gaining extra calories from exercise..... good luck you too!! X
