Finally 5k but...

...my knees aren't talking to me! I did week 9 this morning and after warming up, put Laura back to the start and ran from there.

I was aiming for 35 minutes to see if I could run 5k. I set runkeeper to tell me when I'd run 5k but it didn't happen. However I had an excellent run, even with the gremlins (again) in the last few minutes screaming at me to give up! I don't know if it's because I had coffee before the run but something worked. I kept correcting Laura when she said you have now been running for 5 mins, 10, I said in a smug voice and so it went on!! Definite mental boost.

Thought it would be cool out there after all the rain, nope, for the first time the sweat was running in my ears with headphones on, yuk and down my face! Does this mean I'm a real runner now, ha!?

Well so pleased with myself for running 35 mins but still hung up on, 'I'm sure I ran 5k!!' I got in, had chocolate milk had a shower and checked runkeeper, silly me, I'd cued for the voice to say 5 miles instead of 5K. I actually ran 3.8 miles in 35 mins, so chuffed. I've been wanting to do this for months!!

Anyway had to go to work and I really wanted a nap. I don't know if I can do it again, we'll see.

Very happy and smug (I'm afraid)

:) :)

Yay, yay, YAY! Go you!!

That is a fantastic achievement! Goes to show what a bit of mental trickery and wrestling can do - legs over mind ;-)

Bet you feel you could run forever now - bravo!

P.S do you map your run on Runkeeper?

Thanks so much, am still on cloud 9! yes i do map my run, nice to look at where I ran, as some of it was a blur!!

:)

Glad it's not just me - sometimes I really have to wrack my brains to remember where I ran, let alone anything along the way!

Maybe it was all a dream! Then ouch your legs are aching!!!

Thanks very much :) I wonder if it will always be a mental battle, got a feeling it will!

Yahooooo! Brilliantly run. I've done that reset Laura to the beginning thing - it really is good knowing you've done more than she thinks, isn't it! Funny about the 5k/5miles bit. :)

I'm so happy for you. :) You can be just as smug as you want!

Thanks greenlegs, you may remember when I felt like giving up with the shin splints and strains etc, so glad I didn't!

Are you still enjoying your running?

:D

I've been watching your progress avidly! I really like your icon - it sums up how I feel when I run. :)

Yes, I am enjoying running. I didn't do much over the summer (really not keen on being too hot) but I have got myself going again this last week and am loving it, especially when I stop. :) Today was six months exactly since I graduated, so I re-ran my graduation run. If you want, you can read about it here - greenlegs7.wordpress.com/20... - but watch out for the caterpillar! :)

Hi greenlegs, aw that's nice of you, felt a bit out of the loop with people who started at the same time or later, all graduating and me still struggling! Yes it was unbearable in the heat, can't believe I prefer cool days to go out in now and especially if there's a bit of a shower. Six months? where is the time going! Wow I've never seen a caterpillar like that!

Happy running Susie :)

Fantastic achievement well done....and get a sweatband, they really help with the sweat absorption, I have always used one ( bright orange!!!)

well done!! you are great!! how are your knees? did you do something about them?

Thank you, I am getting a big head with all these compliments! The knees are ok i had a foam roller session, I think it's because i literally couldn't put my feet up and had to go straight out. It was the muscles above the knees I realised, so that would be the quads i presume. It's wonderful having the support as ever on this site as 'normal' people (tee hee) :D don't realise what it means to run 5K.

:)

Love that. Yes, we're no longer normal. Not that I ever was. :)
