Hi Everyone

Ok, so I'm training for Hyde Park 10k in October and am, basically, following B210k. I also want to do another 2 to 3 runs a week and am wondering whether I should be doing some speed training or whether I should be doing some longer runs?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Ade

well done you...I would do speed runs, one long run, and another sport ( which you probably do already??). I swim a mile 2 to 3 days a week and I find I am using different muscles but generally improving my all over fitness and I know that helps.....good luck!!!

When I did training to reach 10K I mixed up my running, I did hill work which for me was important I would never find a 10K route without some ups and downs in it. I did some speed work and also a general run which I extended by about 750M each week. I was able to maintain a steady speed and when 7 weeks later I reached 10K it was about the same time per Km as my 5K which I was chuffed with. 5K in 32-33 minutes and 10K 1:06:20. What I did find by mixing up my running was I never got bored, every run was different and it all helped to build up my strength and stamina. Listen to your body and days when you do a longer run if your muscles need an extra recovery day after then take it, don't over do the longer runs. All the very best of luck and well done. :)

When I wanted to train for 10K, I decided to take up the "Sub 65 min 10K plan" from Runkeeper. It mixes up Slow, tempo and fast runs. As Oldgirl said, the mixing up of various different runs keeps you from getting bored. The only trouble with the plan is that it is 16 weeks long.
