Anyone into the 5 Tibetans?

I'm not trying to be funny or rude, but I have heard so much about these exercises. Running is good for the heart and circulation. And the mind. Aparently the 5 Tibetans would be the cherry on the top of the cake. Eagerly awaiting answers...

Went and googled it as it sounded interesting! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_...

The second one (lying on back and raising both legs up past vertical) would probably do my back in - if I could do it. I think I'll stick to my rather gentler yoga. :) Spinning round until you're dizzy sounds curious too! Fun though. :D

Apparently it is beyond yoga and extremely beneficial. One of my girlfriends no longer suffers from back ache and athritis. She primed her son in 5 Tibetans every morning since he was 12...

Reading the description, I can't really see how it is beyond yoga if you do it for ten minutes (and one of the poses looks like downward facing dog to me anyway) - but then again, what do I know?! Apparently it makes grey hair grow back dark too, so I'm a bit sceptical! I bet if it was done daily though, it would be a lot better than yoga once a fortnight. :)

Re-reading this I think it sounds a bit grumpy and dismissive - sorry, wasn't meant that way. :)

Grey hair grow back darker? Count me in! The other day I came back from a run with my hair in a ponytail, all the white hairs has escaped from the elastic and were stuck out sideways, all the brown hairs were being good!

Chance would be a fine thing!

Yes, to me it looks like a Vinyasa (flow) yoga sequence. The poses are all variations of yoga poses - except for the spinning and I don't really fancy trying that. I'll stick to my current yoga practise.

anything done daily is better than something done fortnightly :-) going to try it just for the grey hair back to normal tho :-)

This is so weird. I got a notification that you had sent me a message. I replied and both your message and my answer vanished. Logged in again to find your second response. xox d

I put a message saying I didn't know what it was... then realised that was lazy so went and googled and then deleted the original message. You aren't going mad! :)

I am getting no notifications as at all now....is it just me???? Despite the fact I have responses.

I think the site is crazy!

I think reader discretion would be required - lower back issues - balance - coordination and the neck extension / flexion all issues

Is this what you mean

The Five Tibetan Rites is a system of exercises reported to be more than 2,500 years old[1] which were first publicized by Peter Kelder in a 1939 publication titled The Eye of Revelation.

I would be very concerned about this part for people with any neck issues

Well it sounds quite interesting but is bringing the old film Shangri-La to mind.

Our yoga teacher introduced us to these in the class I go to weekly. I'm not sure that I feel they have added an extra benefit to the other moves we do, but I suppose I should be doing them daily. I don't like the spinning very much! I also have to adapt the leg lift by bending my knees. I am sure that I would get a benefit from doing them every day but I am just not convinced it would be greater than doing 15 minutes of another yoga sequence that didn't involve spinning. I'd say give them a try and see how you get on. Some people in the class really like them and some dislike one particular part (usually the spinning!)

I looked it up on Google, watched the demonstration video and am prepared to give it a go. Not sure about managing that last one though :-0

I've done this sequence of exercise a few times in my yoga class. I've also done them at home home with fewer reps following a 'You tube' video. I'm not disciplined enough to do them every day but they are supposed to help you stay supple and younger!!!

Thanks for this DeliaItaly. I too had no idea what you were on about but soon found out through Google! I did do Yoga many moons ago and have been seeking out something for my core strength of late. I liked Pilates but all of these things need you to get you breathing correct. I am going to give it a go though!
