Goodbye June, I will not miss thee.....

June was the month that I started with such hope. To sympathise with Wifey's pregnancy enforced lifestyle changes I decided to give up caffeine for the month. It was a very difficult first week as I battled withdrawl symptoms (I drank loads of caffeine every day previously) but managed to go a whole month without the stuff and am happy with that.

Sadly the other lifestyle changes have suffered badly. I was hoping to run a mix of b210k, speed runs and core excercises on my days off so I would be working out every day and was feeling good about it. My first run went well and following week 1 of Bridge 2 10 K I trundled along over 6km quite happily. The next run I stood in a big hole full of nettles and wrenched my knee after about 20 minutes. I stayed off for a week as it was a bit delicate and decided to start again.

Try 2 was Father's day. Wifey announced we would be going to see her dad and then she had a nice surprise afternoon arranged. I said I would run back from my in-laws and she could drive back and meet me. The run back (6.5km door to door) went really well and I decided I would move up to week 2 of bridge to 10k next time. As I ran up to the front door Wifey texted to say she would need me to be ready in 5 minutes. I left off the warm down walk and jumped in the shower. The treat turned out to be a family trip to the movies which we all enjoyed! Unfortunately when I went to stand up my legs were stiff all over and very sore. If you go for a long run then don't skip the warm down walk and then sit in a cramped seat for a few hours!

The next run my calve's were sore and I got stabbing pains after just 1km. I had to stop and go home. Hugely disappointed but enjoyed that when I stopped to walk my breathing was normal in 2 steps, so that at least was good.

So no runs until tomorrow and only about 3 runs in the whole month, sigh. Worst of all though, I was invited to a formal evening and, to my horror, discovered that a month of bad eating due to caffeine cravings and crazy pregnancy food requests, has meant my kilt no longer fits! Disaster!

I have decided that July will be taken easily and I will go for regular gentle excercise and will eat well to get back into that kilt. Scared that my legs will be sore yet again tomorrow and have invested in extra Ibuprofen Gel. I hope July is good!

Oh no! All that training to get your kilt legs, and then it doesn't fit! Horrors!

I don't much like the sound of a big hole full of nettles either. :)

May July be a happier month than June. (Perhaps I should edit the first two words of that sentence, but that's how it came out, and I rather like it.) :)

Yes, cast June behind you and let's move on! Nettles and wrenched knees and stiff legs and NO CAFFEINE!!! - what an awful month :O I hope July is better for you and that your kilt fits sleekly again at the end of the month ;)
