Hi, my son is 14 and is very keen rower. I am trying to get him to do more running, and he asked me what a good 5K time for him would be? Does anyone know? He is about 5'9", slim, fit and strong, but he doesn't do much running, just rowing 4 time a week.
5K time for 14 year old?: Hi, my son is 14 and... - Couch to 5K
5K time for 14 year old?
Don't know if it's any help?? My son is 37. He rows like there's no tomorrow even though he's the shortest in the boat! He also runs very regularly. His pb is 18.58 minutes. I would think your son would easily do it in the mid twenties at his age. Has he tried a parkrun? You aren't trying to win just running against yourself.
Thanks for that.
I've just picked him up from rowing (again), and I will get him to pop along to a parkrun over the summer.
Try this link:

If you do a Parkrun your result always comes out as a time with a % figure which shows how your time compares with others of the same age. Higher is better although I can't explain much more than that (details are available on Runners World I think). I (50 year old woman running around 33.30 for 5K) come out close to 50% and I'm more than happy with that. Our Parkrun "fastest" runners are up in the high 70s %.
Hope that helps!

Hi
Thanks for the response. Yes, it does help. I shall talk to him about doing a park run.
He can do a 5K with his eyes closed [wish we could], but we have never timed him.
I will post his time etc when he does it.
Hi
Thanks again. I will try and get him along to a parkrun over the summer hols. If nothing else, it will show him what running with others is all about, and being the competitive little chap he is, he will want to get there first.
From memory: It's a percentage of the world record for your age/gender for that distance to give you a grading. Thought I'd got a lot better after my birthday, turned out I was just a year older...
