Run time for 5k for a 65 year okd

Well I can run for 30 minutes but I can only do 3k in this time. I’m nearly 66 and I just can’t go any faster. I think the main thing is that I can run for 30 minutes. I’m just wondering how other ladies of my age do and what everyone else thinks.

That's fantastic well done ...Great to get to this stage isn't it ..It's been some journey .. you must be so pleased ...I know I am ...Not long now ..I'm not sure of others at 66 ...I'm 51 and the achievement is amazing ...Well done 😊😊

Well done!! It doesn’t matter how far you go...you can run for 30 mins!! That is a great achievement and one to be celebrated. Distance not important to me just enjoy the run! 😊

I’m 60 and yes- can run for 30 mins ( just) but only manage 3.5 km.

I’m not at all bothered by my speed . I’ve graduated and just want to enjoy my runs. If I run for 20/30 mins and even if I stop for a breather I’m not worried. I’m proud I can even run after a lifetime of wanting to but not having the confidence to try.

Speed doesn’t matter . Yes it does for some but that’s so not me.

Thank you. I’m going to try the bridge to 10K and as you say, I may need to stop for s breather, but I’ll keep going.

Speed comes with time if you follow the sorts of training plans outlined in the guide to post C25K running healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Don't try to run fast on every run. Longer, slower runs do as much, if not more to build your speed.

Well done on getting to run for 30mins. I always say the world is your oyster take that new skill and use it anyway you want. For me running gave me the energy and confidence to try many different things on the exercise front, some of which I would never of of contemplated without the confidence C25K gave me. I’m in my 50’s and a slow runner but because I can run I go to classes at the gym, I swim, I race walk and I hike as well as running. I like to shake it up a bit, whatever I do I always make sure I do one run a week to keep my muscles in tune but I am the fittest I have ever been In my life and that has nothing to do with my pace. I can go out and do a long run that lasts 3 hours when I’m trained up, I cover 18-20km but the distance isn’t as important as the time it takes me. Take you new found skill and make it work for you, try not to put too many restrictions on yourself about your pace if you get faster great if it takes a while to build your pace up that’s ok too, whatever happens just enjoy it. 😀.

30 minutes is all that is needed:) Go you!!!!

I am 68.... I can run, and that is the most important thing...... time and distance don't matter...slow and steady gets you to amazing places...just keep running:)

Doesn’t it feel amazing? I am about to turn 65 and graduated mid April, nowhere near 5km though. Since then I continued running 3 times a week for 30 minutes and increased my running time little by little until I did my first 5km. I’m not bothered by the time it takes me and each run I’m sure improves my stamina. After running several 5 km distances I decided to try ju ju’s bridge to 10km and last Saturday ran 7km, now if the weather over here (NZ) would play ball I’d like to start week 4 please. I’m still slow but I’m running. You continue at your own pace and well done us I say. 👍

Thank you and good for you, I think ju ju’s next 10km intake starts 15th June. I’m speaking for myself only but as I age, physically its not as easy as it used to be, but mentally I have the attitude who gives a toss? I’m going to do it anyway, well at least try. You’ll smash running 60 minutes👏🏻

You're doing better than me - I manage 2.6 kms. I blame my super short legs and being 72, but I'm running for 30 mins so who cares about distance!!

I had been walking and exercising before I started running so I was fairly fit. I had never run, I was the one that the teacher shouted at at school. Don’t go too fast, that was my first mistake. Get your breathing right, I would practice breathing techniques before running. Breathe in for three and out for three. Make sure you can speak when you run. Do dynamic stretches before running, there’s lots of videos on YouTube and stretch after particularly leg/hip stretches for 10 minutes. I downloaded a daily yoga app and did the free programmes. I found it helped so much that I paid for the app when it was on special offer. It really helps my hips which got very stiff with running. Injury prevention is key at our age so it’s very worthwhile to take the extra time. I do strength exercises in the days I don’t run. I have one day a week off but do gentle stretching and have a walk. I’ve gained so much fitness. I have arthritis in both knees but I swear they’re stronger now. I’m lucky I have the time to do all of this. If I can go it anyone can. Kept in touch and let me know how you get on.
