It weren't half hot, mum

We've been in Rhodes for a family wedding. I took my running kit, fully intending to run at least every other day. Ha! 33deg heat. I did go out twice but only managed 15 mins each time before melting. The only appropriate response on return, pausing only to remove watch and shoes, was to jump in the pool fully (well, lightly) clad. Sadly we're now back in Blighty where the weather is really quite.......poor. Happily, I'll be able to get running again without melting

What a nice chance to see some sunshine though! No chance of melting back here in Blighty .... About to go out this morning and more worried about dissolving! Have fun and welcome home

Cheers, Linda x

Thanks Linda. The sunshine was nice, and the wedding was lovely. Ah well, back to reality!

I love Rhodes!! If only I had the problem of melting right now! :(

Well, you had good intentions Ned but I think the pool called you more than your running shoes and dont blame you....33c is perfect for sunbathing and swimming, nothing much more than that though! ;)

Welcome back to summer, UK stylee!!! :O

Thanks Sue; it was definitely too hot for running. I was in the pool so much - think I shrank!

Hi OldNed, going to Corfu next month taking my running gear too. I hope I can get a few runs in early morning on late evening if possible. But I am not sure I will be able to achieve this.

Go for early morning! It's lovely then; the light is good and it's [relatively] cool.

I used to get up at 5.30 and run in Mexico was back into room by 6.15am and 28C in time to peel off the clothes and have a long cool shower before breakfast. OldNed your 33C was darn hot when we're not used to it too. The swim would have done you just as much good if not more. What a smashing place to go for a wedding too, lovely. :)

Thanks Oldgirl. It was a lovely setting for the wedding, at St Paul's Chapel, Lindos. And the swim was cool, in both senses of the word, too!!

Know what you mean Ned, yesterday I ran at 8 am and it was impossibly hot. It's either 7 am at the latest from now on -- I'm not an "evening" person.

I agree about not doing evenings, at least not for running. I've just been out this evening and although it's OK there are too many people about. I prefer it quieter, not because I'm bashful about running (lost that embarassment long since), I just prefer to have fewer people about. Next week I'm off to France for two weeks, running every day through the forests west of Bordeaux and I'm REALLY looking forward to that. It was in that area that I first had the notion that I might want to try running; the rest, as they say, is history! Cheers.

Ooh I'm off to Bordeaux in augustfor three weeks. Any tips on good places t run? We're staying in the south west of the city.

Head out towards the coast. There's a network of "pistes cyclable" & forest tracks south of Lacanau & Lacanau-Ocean, all of which are runnable, all the way down to Le Porge (which is where I'm based) and beyond to Cap Ferret & Arcachon. It's pretty flat and all runs through the pine forests. Lovely! A good map will help too. The IGN series - Nos 1336 & 1337 - will see you right!

So jealous of you guys heading off to Bordeaux, its one of my favourite places. In the city you can run right along the banks of the Garonne on the quays where there is a wide area for people to walk/cycle and run. Also the Jardin Public which is also right in the centre. Have fun and be sure to visit L'Entrecote for a meal while you are there.

Thanks Emma, that's good to know. I'm planning to get the train into Bordeaux one day so I'll bear that in mind. Perhaps I should start a collection of Great Cities I Have Run In!
