When calculating your distance, do you include the 5 minute warm up walk?

I don't, but if I'm doing the podcast as opposed to listening to my own music, the iPod calculates the total distance gone.

I do when I'm trying to convince myself that I'm actually quite close to 5k, but deep down (well, not even that deep really) I know that's not really the way to do it....!

To be honest the distance was never an issue for me, but since I've started the long runs I've been a little more interested and today I started my mapmyrun app at the beginning of the run (before I started it at warm up and stopped it when I got home after warm down) when I realised I had got to 4.6k after the 28 mins I kept going to get to 5k. Never knew I had it in me! Hope that kind of answers the question :)

No. I like to know the distance I am running/have run (as I know I can walk a long way... :) ).

No, I never include the walking in my distance. Depending on which route I take and/or how well I manage, I sometimes end up walking for over a mile to get home!

I include everything because my target is to do 1hour sports. So I do my warm uo walk, the running time and than the cool down run. Today I got the distance of 3.7 km in 30 minutes. The same distance I walk back so I did the total distance 7.4km in a little bit more than a hour. in the first week I could do only do 2.5 km in the time the podcast continued.

For me it is not only importent to finish the run from the podcast it is also importent to do 1h sports because of the weight loss effect

What app are you using to record the distance with. When I was using the Nike+ running I started the app when I started running. This did not affect the podcast. I used the option for using the currently playing music.

Hi,

How do u get the podcast to play via the Nike app? I use it on my iPhone and when I select the option for using currently playing music it never continues the podcast I am listening too but switches to whatever song I last listened too :( It is really annoying cause it means I have to switch between apps just when I am about to start running and one of the two inevitable crashes :( Any advice would be great. As I am now running with my iPhone for the Nike app and my iPod shuffle for the podcast.

Im using an ipod. The Nike+ is set to 'currently playing' already when I use it.

I start the pod cast then when I stop walking, I start the app for the running section.

I'm using fitness thing on my iPod nano. It's not entirely accurate .... I'm tempted to get a Garmin watch.

I do include my walks. I'm interested to see how much distance I cover in total, not just when I'm running.

I found it quite frustrating not getting accurate distances and times. Hubby bought me a Garmin for my birthday so now I use the Garmin for the running only time/distance and iPod Nike Fitness App for overall distance and my own music.

I did at first when I was walking on and off throughout but now I put it on a 5 min delay so it comes in about the time I start running.

I must admit that I do count my 5 min warm up walk as part of my distance when doing it

Its up to you. There's no right or wrong. Walking is exercise. I do both as I want to run for the 5k but I also like to know my overall distance too. I use endomondo starting at my run and run keeper from the beginning of the walk or vice versa. Zonks my phone battery though lol

I tend to include the warm up walk but not the cool down walk - simply because once I get going I don't like to stop to fiddle with my ipod. Also if I walk a section of the run (eg a nasty hill) I would still include that. The thing that I'm currently interested in is my pace though as I'm training to try and do a 10k race in 55 mins so including the walk does affect that...
