Do you include your warm up/down walks on Strava?

I’ve been setting Strava going as we leave the house, but should I really start it at the beginning of the run? Currently on week 6 run 3.

Hi there! For me, this depends on whether your goals relate to speed or to distance. I’ve had my strava set up to record as soon as leave the house, but now I’m running more (Week 6 too!) I’ve started setting it from the run. This really is personal preference...good luck for run 3!!

It depends what you want to measure..........warm up, run and cool down or just run...........

Was wondering the same thing! I set mine off at the beginning and tend to walk for ten minutes before and 20 minutes after.

Me too. I set everything as I leave the house - Strava, C25K app & music.

I start it at the beginning of the run and stop it at the end, before the cool down. I have a 10 minute walk to get to the canal where I run and that includes a steep hill, so that’s my warm up. I tend to keep walking for about an hour after it taking the long way home. So I was quite pleased today with my average speed as it didn’t include any walking in the middle. I’m not really aiming for any particular speed, just interested to see if it improves as my fitness improves.

I’m on 6/3, tomorrow! I’ve started recording on Strava Just as I’m told by Jo to start running, then I pause it at the end of the run! Just to see how far I’m able to run. No walk breaks now, till graduation! 😲Good luck with yours!

I’d just do the run part

For ease I do the warm up and run but not the cool down. I'm not that interested in pace but any improvement can be seen anyway in that measurement. 😊

Hey! Well done on your progress so far.

I do the same - but when I complete the session, the pace per km on Strava always looked so slow, as the walking stints are recorded and factor in to the 'run' distance. I record with a Garmin Watch so it's really accurate for heart rate and pace.

It's hard because you are technically on a run, albeit a training run and a ramp up to a full 5k but, there are prescribed walking stints which throw off you're running pace so you can't get an accurate pic of how quick or steady you are as a runner if you record the whole thing.

I guess the thing to do is continue recording the whole thing, until you hit the 9 week 5km run. Then (if you like running still 🤪) you can record each of your runs and the Strava data will begin to show your stats as a runner.

Label your runs as C25K each time on Strava until they're not, just a handy way of identifying your progress!

Good luck for the remaining weeks!👍👍

I set my strava as I leave my house, I don't think it matters, not for me anyway. Good lick and keep going! You're doing amazing!

I just completed my W6R3 this morning & I set my Strava to include the warm up/cool down but I've been thinking the same recently as my pace is around the 9-minute mark. I think I'm going to keep measuring it all so I can compare better but after the programme I think I will just put it on for the run only

I used to start it and stop it from home when I had someone telling me when to walk and run, but now I need to run a distance (bridge to 10k program) I start it after my warm up and stop it when the run part ends. Then start it again on walk for my walk home. I don’t have a fancy watch, but even just using my phone strava does give km splits, which gave me an idea of my pace.

Hi, I'm getting to the end of C25k (W9 starts Wednesday) and was looking for what to do next. Do you follow a specific bridge to 10k plan? If so can you tell me which one?

Thanks

Hi, I’m following the distance based JuJu magic plan

Hi, I include the warm and warm downs and apart from proving to myself that I’m not much quicker running than walking, I like to include the whole workout. Last time I graduated (currently doing it again after completing the 5k2couch; and back to wk7) I started Park Runs on a Saturday. For those I’d start at the beginning and stop end but soon found that my average pace didn’t really alter that much whether warm and cool down included or not

My approach on the last run I did was a bit mad but here goes:

1. Set up couch to 5k

2. Put on spotify

3. Start strava

4. Start walking

5. About to start running, turn on Nike run

6. Run

7. Stop running and stop Nike run

8. Stop walking, stop Strava

9. Get home and auto running on the galaxy watch stops

I’ve only done it once this way as I wanted to record my full exercise on strava for my weekly and annual stats. The Nike run allowed me to see how much I ran and that I’m not close to 5k. The galaxy watch shows my fastest and average pace which strava doesn’t do.

Ultimately, the only thing I really need is the app and some music but it makes the run a bit more entertaining.

Yes just use the auto pause, it times your warm up and down as time elapsed but activates your running time and exact time and pace running only.

If you look at the analysis it will show ‘time elapsed 50mins but you’re running time might be 20mins with pace / mins per mile.

Click on the analysis and it will show you this. It’s really simple. Press record on Strava and put it in your pocket and press stop when you’ve finished running and it will work it all out for you.

Hi, I include the 5 minute warm up walk but not the walk at the end. No real logic to it just the way I've done it since the beginning 🙄

I only ever recorded running time on Strava as I wanted to know the distance I was running and improve on it to get to 5k. I graduated a couple of months ago and my best run so far is 6.7k which I never thought was possible. I should add I'm 5 ft 2" so little legs and I'm 72 yrs old. Good luck with your running.

I’ve been using my Map my Run app alongside my C25K app but find that it pauses my C25K app when it gives me time/distance update, I have to then press play again, I’ve found that I’ve ended up running for about a minute longer than I should because of this! Phew! 😳

I stopped using map my run for that reason, even when I turned off the voice notification it still slowed it down compared to my son’s who runs with me! I use Strava now instead 👍

I’ve been using Strava since week 3 so had been including everything including the warm up and cool down. However recently decided I wanted to get more accurate stats so for the final week I’m starting/stopping it after warm up/before cool down. Managed 4.4k yesterday morning which I’m pretty pleased with 🙂

I’ve only used Strava 3 times, but currently include my warm up and cool down walks, with a view to just recording the running bit when I get to week 8 (currently on week7)

On another note - I got my 3rd best time, 3rd best mile and 3rd best lap this week!

I have been using Strava for years and I want to know all TIMES AND DISTANCES. Warming-up and cooling-down ARE always relevant with an exercise effort and as such I want the specifics for future comparisons.

.................. Emcg51 wrote >>> "Do you include your warm up/down walks on Strava?"

Depends on the desired ---- GOAL ---- of the effort just HOW I INCLUDE the times of warm-up/cool-down

If the goal is for the TOTAL TIME and/or DISTANCE then recording begins when out the door and ends when back at the door i.e. -- start to finish

If the goal is for the TIME/DISTANCE of a specific EVENT LENGTH then warm-up and cool-down would be separate from EVENT Distance so there would be 3 individual entries.

My method might seem superfluous but as I mentioned --- ALL EFFORTS are important for future training AND when competing whether be it a 5K to Marathon distance or an IRONMAN TRIATHLON or a 100 miles bicycling in 5 hour ride or a 24 Hour Timed bicycling event.

I decided to keep Strava for the full workouts and used Map My Walk for just the run 👍
