Finally did Parkrun. Was resigned to being last, but wasn't - just.

I've been wanting to do Parkrun for ages. {Tried in December (2012) but only got .25 mile before getting discouraged and giving up.} I was worried that I would be last because I am so slow. I kept checking the results and wishing there were some slow times in there because that would have been so encouraging to me. I finally thought that if I did one and put a slow time up there, maybe it would encourage someone else like me. So I determined to go and be resigned to being last.

But as I puffed and panted round the first circuit there were a few folk behind me. Some of them with little children. They eventually peeled off but one lady stayed just behind me even though I was doing quite a bit of walking. I kept expecting her to overtake but we stayed almost together to the finish. So I was not last. And I so appreciated this unknown lady's company. Thank you whoever you were!

You know that's exactly my thinking about parkrun. I was going to try and get my time under the 41 min mark that's usually the last person on my local parkrun. But I've decided that I'll go regardless. Just in case there's someone else waiting to go. Well done on going for it.

That is so lovely. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I bet it WILL encourage someone else. Well done.

Well done its so exciting to get round . I have 4 park runs and always last or near but the encouragent really helps. I can now do 38mins which isn't going to break any records but its mine to feel proud of. You keep going fantastic

I've been registered with Parkrun since January and am still procrastinating about joining a run. My local Parkrun is very small (only about 35 runners) and the slowest time is usually around the 33/34 min mark which I find quite intimidating. Scary!!

Great the parkruns get easier the walking gets less the breathing improves every week

it doesn't matter what times other people achieve, what matters is what time you achieve on your next parkrun ;-)

Well done on dipping your toe in the Parkrun water! Yesterday was a nice morning - probably the warmest weather I've ever run in (I started last September). I was 152nd out of 170 yesterday so pretty close to the back. There's a good reason why they give you a PERSONAL best - it's a target for next time and unique to you. It doesn't matter what anyone else does :-)
