Wk3 Day 1 - Surprised myself but need to quit smoking!

Well I feel super smug I completed my first run of week 3, I was dreading it but found I could do it without being too tired and I feel elated. Still smoking though thats my next challenge I have cut down to about 5 a day any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

I quit years ago and was never a heavy smoker (not sure it makes any difference though) all I will say is, you can do it! I used the Allen Carr Easy way book (the little wee one actually) and it really helped. I wouldn't bother with all the patches and guff, I reckon it's just someone trying to make money from a different kind of addict. It's mainly will power and thinking about it differently. Trust me, if you want to do it you can. In fact, a lot like running. It's mostly mental.

Glad you are getting on with the programme. It's great that you have committed to these changes for your health. Your body will thank you.

I stopped using the prescription drug Champix. It does have side effects and some of them are bit weird, some are scary, but they do work. I had tried the patches and the manky tasting gum, all a waste of time in my opinion.

I know of a lot of people who stopped using the book lizfish recommends and if I'd known about it at the time that's the way I'd of gone too.

I think to stop using any method you've got to really want it. If you're not determined your addiction will talk you out of it, I believe the book helps you achieve that required mind set.

Well done for getting to week 3! And for cutting down so much.

I gave up smoking 11 years ago, and I used the Allen Carr method too. It didn't tell me anything new, but it really really helped me and my husband quit.

You'll soon feel a big difference to your running & your bank balance. Go for it! :-)

I quit with Champix, I didn't manage it personally with Alan Carr, but I know it contributed with the success.

I gave up three years ago using Nicotinelle Lozenges. They're mint and you just park one in your cheek and forget about them - each one lasts about 40 minutes - and the desire to smoke completely vanishes. I'd previously tried the patches, which left itchy squares, and the gum which was revolting, but these lozenges really worked.

Well done on w3r1!

I gave up smoking 3 years ago (3 year anninverersy last week to be precise!) using the inhalator as the "having something to do with my hands" aspect was really crucial to my habit. I also quit with hubby and one of my best mates which made it a ton easier.

The turning point for me was that I worked for a university on a research project addressing among other things people's smoking habits and I learnt and observed lots that put me off. After doing many biometric tests on people, after a while, I could spot a smoker at 20 paces! I also had person after person coming up and telling me that they had quit and it was the best thing they ever did, so I thought, if they can, so can I. So I did! And so can you! :)
