My eldest has been asking if she can come running with me and I'm all for it, I think it's good to instil a love of exercise at a young age. She'll be 5 in October so she's only young, but very keen! I was thinking of taking her around the block for 10 mins before my 'proper' run.
Has anyone seen a training plan similar to C25K but for children? Or if there's nothing out there I shall just make up my own, any tips for length of intervals- is 30 seconds running too much to begin with? I could just do C25K but halve all the times.
Thanks for any tips!

Going round the block with her sounds a good idea. Lovely idea to get her enjoying being outside and active with you! I think I'd base it on what she can do easily already, rather than make it too challenging, which might put her off running. I think I'd also try to keep it different from school! Far too many targets and tick boxes in school (I work in one). Then again, some children thrive on it.
The trouble with children is trying to get them to slow down so that they can run for longer periods. Why not use my lamp post system, jog to one walk to the next. She will be able to see her next mark and understand what she needs to do. You can then build up the distances, i.e. lamp posts. You will be surprised how quickly she develops her ability to sustain longer periods of running. Good luck, hope this helps.
Hi my lad is 9, he came out with me recently and ran a full 3K, Im sure he could easily have done more..as mentioned above it was hard keeping him to a steady pace.... or maybe he could just run faster than me ha ha
