I just did a 10k yesterday-first one in 8 years. It was a slog but I ran the whole way. Most of the folk around me were walk/running and at times I thought I might be quicker doing that!
Am I a mug to keep running when others around are bailing out??

Oops posted too soon. I meant to add when I did my first 10K race I was a bit put out when I passed some people when they were walking and I was running, only for them to pass me again a few minutes later. This 'leap-frogging' went on several times! But I now know this is what happens in any race and that's fine!
Haha, sorry but that made me laugh. I've not been passed at the finish by anyone in a costume, but in hubby photos of my last race, he captured a guy in a morph suit coming in just behind me!
Well I'll stick with the slow and steady - but it didn't win me the race!
In my parkrun last weekend (only 5k I know, but the principle's the same) I spent the whole time leapfrogging with a lady who kept running and then walking as i kept up my slow and steady pace all the way round (but I did pass her as I ran up the steep hill - good feeling!). But then she did put on a run at the end, and got in first. She looked very uncomfortable every time she was running though, and she commented about her heart going very fast - I was a bit concerned I might need to do CPR!
I'll still aim to run it all next time, even though I've read stuff about run/walking marathons sometimes enabling people to do them faster than walking all the way. As swanscot says, it depends on what you prefer really. No one right way.
