The most important thing Laura taught me..........

......... was to pace myself.

I know almost every Podcast tells you to do that, but try as you might, it's easy to set off too fast (or it certainly was for me anyway)

I was over the moon at the weekend because I finally ran the 5k and in under 30 minutes as well, which was very important to me. And I use RunKeeper to track my runs.

I'm sure many of you will know, RunKeeper also gives you a break down of your time for each Kilometer.

My overall time was 29 minutes 45 seconds. This was the break down:

1km: 5:34

2km: 5:59

3km: 6:01

4km: 6:07

5km: 6:03

I found the second half of this run VERY difficult indeed and whilst feeling great about completing the 5K, I physically felt very drained for the rest of that day. And i feel it was because I'd gone too fast at the beginning of my run and tired myself out.

I ran last night and completed the 5k in 29 minutes and 27 seconds, knocking a very pleasing 18 seconds off my time from the weekend. The break down:

1km: 5:48

2km: 5:51

3km: 5:58

4km: 5:59

5km: 5:52

Much steadier from the off, very similar times for each Kilometer and I wouldn't go as far to say it was easy, far from it, but a stark contrast to my previous run. Maybe I could've gone further, but didn't want to feel like I'd felt before so decided to leave it there.

That Laura character knows her stuff!

Slow and steady wins the race. Certainly in my case anyway.

Well done they are some brilliant times. :-)

I too find it hard to start of slow, so you are not alone, although I'm not going as fast as you.

Best of luck with your continued runs. :-)

Well done you and you're absolutely right about Laura's advice. I do the same... although my average is 7 mins a km so I am a bit slower than you!! Funnily enough I speed up towards the end, when I can see the "finish line" (the pub in our village which is 5 mins from my house, ready for my warm down walk) and I know I have some left in the tank.
