I have recently been diagnosed with COPD and am confused with how much exercise I should do, and what is too much?

Hi KatyThe emphasis is not how much, but regular exercise and it's whatever you can manage, start off slowly and build up. For instance my chosen exercise is walking, now at the beginning I was so unfit and could not get very far, but each day I went out and did what I could, even having lots of rests. I set goals like in the park one tree to the next. It's just upto you and what you feel you are able to do. Also my daughter bought me a smart watch with step counter, not a very expensive one, but this motivates me too you can set how many steps and then build up, hope this helps good luck 😁

Exactly what the other replies have said, you will know when you have done enough, a little and often is OK. Do not push yourself too hard, just do what your body allows. I too walk for my exercise and I rest often when I'm out for a walk. Take care x

Do you have Pulmonary Rehab where you are? If so ask your doctor to prescribe it for you. In the States you can go twice a week and you do very COPD friendly workouts for about an hour. Like a treadmill at low speeds or you could walk around the block for 30 minutes at whatever pace you can handle. That helps your endurance. Then there are weights, about 2-6 pounds each - again what you can handle. And the weights are 15-20 repetitions each so about 30 minutes on those. There are some U tube videos on good weights exercises for copd which are meant to help your upper body strength. I also took up some simple stretching to help my balance. The hard part is sticking to your workout. So set aside like 2 or 3 days that you will walk for 30 minutes. And 2 or 3 days to do the weights and same for yoga/stretching. This way you only spend half an hour and its easier not to postpone it with the excuse that you don't have the time.

I go swimming 3 times a week it really helps
