I am new here and was diagnosed with COPD about 3 years ago. Can’t remember when exactly as wasn’t told I had it until receptionist rang and asked me to go in for a review. I said she had me mixed up with someone else 🤪So another year of smoking and I finally got collared by the doctor as I tried to stop smoking, started vaping and ended up with bad bronchitis. I am in other community groups here for a myriad of things but I guess breathing is most important. On 2 inhalers a day and I stupidly still smoke cigarettes 🚬 ( have done for 40+years) . Daft question but how do I give up? My other illnesses bring me so down that I don’t really care much but I do realise that I am a going to be gasping for breath soon. Any tips on what would help? Tried patches, hypnosis, vaping, etc. Thanks for any help. Lynn
Hi Lynn, before reading this, I read your initial post to know a little about you. I learned a lot! 😉Looks like you have a lot of strikes going against you, but more important still is the fact that you're been blessed with a sense of humor. 😂😂God said laughter is good medicine & I believe Him. I love to laugh too & believe me when I say that it's done me more good than any pill or inhalent I've ever taken!! No boubt adout it!! 😂😂I too struggled with quitting smoking. I had that bad habit for 22 yrs but quit about 28 yrs ago. Oh no, I think I just gave my age away! 😂😂 It was one of the hardest things I've ever done!!! I tried 5 different times & finally I took a week off of work & focused on it & succeeded. You can accomplish the same thing. I'm rooting for you. Just do it!!
Go Lynne!! 👏👏Well, it was nice talking to you & laughing too. 😂
I tried to quit 3 times before I succeeded. Like they say "if at first you don't succeed, try try again".
I set my quit date, cleaned and freshened everything in my house, got rid of all but 1 ashtray, then put that outside. I turned my home into a smoke free zone, so I had to go outside to smoke
I used wellbutrin for a month, then the patch and red licorice to suck on (for that hand to mouth action). Once I got past that part of the habit, I used butterscotch candy for that occasional craving.
Ask your doctor for help, but know that you have to have your mind set on quitting in order to succeed.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to quit smoking, and kick that nicotine stick to the curb.
Thanks so much for your help. I already smoke 💨 outside ( even when it’s freezing) but getting older, the less I like it.
Despite my experience with a vape I have bought another one and just don’t inhale so deep. I am still smoking cigarettes 🚬 but not so many and I seem to be loosing interest in cigarettes.
SO YES I will accept the mission as you have proved it’s not impossible 👍.
Thanks for your help and support as I really appreciate it.
Take care.xxx
Hi Many thanks for your reply and yep 👍 it’s a bad habit to break. I keep saying every packet I buy is my last but ...... well, one of these fine days it will be. I even tried hypnosis once and I gave up for 3 weeks until there was a burglary next door. I heard them and my first reaction was When does the corner shop open so I can get some cigarettes 🚬? That was at 2 am and I had to wait until 6:30 🕡🤪
Thanks for your support though and I am sure hoping that one of these days I will stop 🛑
Take care and good health to you. Xxx
Thanks for your help and well done 👍 on quitting. Despite my bad experience with a 💨 vape I have bought a new one. Not inhaling deeply this time.
I am going to do this. I am still smoking cigarettes 🚬 but not so many and I seem to be loosing interest in smoking. Hooray 😁. However my consumption of crisps has doubled so I may soon need a diet plan. Thanks for sharing your experience as it helps me lots. Take care and enjoy your evening. Xxx
Hi you are like me I am desperate to stop smoking as I have emphysema tried a couple off times stopped for 6 weeks now back on them start trying to stop again please dont give up trying
Hi 👋 thanks for your message. It’s damn hard to give up isn’t it? But like you said we MUST keep on trying. Reckon we must be mad as we should really appreciate our lungs more. Thanks for your support and good luck in the quest to be smoke free. Lynn xx
Hi Lynn676 - I stopped using Champex tablets (not sure of spelling) I had hardening of arteries in right leg so when I was diagnosed with this I stopped immediately but had been trying hence the tablets that was 12 years ago. I have pain in my leg but don't let it stop me doing exercise classes and I believe this has helped my COPD as well. Good Luck just think of what you can spend the money you save on think I single handedly improved M&S profits.
Thanks 🙏 I believe if I had a shock like that I would give up too. Bless you as you are making the most out of your life. Are those tablets to help stop smoking 🚬?
Glad you are keeping M&S in profits. Like all other stores they need support.
Hi - I got them through the doctor and also went to a stop smoking support group which your doctor or nurse should be able to tell you where they are held locally near you. I also done the pulmonary rehab for 6 weeks which was also a good help with the COPD if your doctor offers this go and they can help with stopping smoking and give loads of advice even on travel insurance. Take care Lynn
