Bought some NAC as I thought it can't do any harm but I have been reading up side effects and am a little frightened to take it. Is there anything natural that I can take that is good for lung health thanks

I would look a little closer at the many benefits, but if you want a simple, safe food remedy, I would try the ginger tumeric elixer. My version has

evolved to include, chaga, which I find in the woods while hiking. But the version I found online initially is anti inflammatory and very helpful in

loosening conjestion, and cheap accessible. Chop up a chunk of ginger

root, about half a white onion, add three cups water. Simmer till reduced by half. Alow this to cool, strain, add two tsp of ground tumeric and three tbsp of RAW honey (many beneficial properties removed by processing) Take a few Tbsp of this three times a day, or when conjested. The ginger is pretty spicy, so I add quite a bit of honey, have my kids take as a preventative. My oldest son in college lives home and my youngest daughter in highschool, take this and some of my mushroom supplements, neither of them got sick last winter. My daughter who is away at college was sick repeatedly. Is was a visit from her and some friends last fall, that gave me a cold, which turned into pneumonia, that landed me in the hospital, that started me on this journey. After a year of antibiotics to beat the TB, my immune system was shot. I was afraid to go out, for fear of exposure, now I don't think about it.

My pulmonary doctor put me on it and said that it works for some and not for others. I'm one that it doesn't work for, back to Mucinex for me.

My pulmonologist had me to take NAC (1000mg x2 daily). It reduced my incidences of coughing and mucus by 85% . I believe it stabilized my PFT decline for almost two years thus delaying my transplant by giving me a little more time with my native lungs. I am 18 months post transplant now and doing very well. I would try the NAC - you may be one of the percentages that it helps - I was.

I have used it for a couple of years and haven't been back to hospital

I have not tried it yet, I am concerned about how it will interact with my other meds. This mucus and not breathing well especially at night is a problem. My doctor not to high on NAC.

I have been on NAC 600 2X for several years. Takes a few months but I did improve on the exacerbations.
