SOB with weakness upon slight exertion, this has been going on the last 3 wks,,,,on and off, seems to be getting it daily now,,,been doing the breathing technique breathing in through your nose for 2 seconds and breathing out of your mouth with your lips puckered,,seems to help,,,but I'm got a double whammy, ,looking at chronic kidney disease, which I found out 7 wks ago from stage 3b and down to stage 4,,,completely had a anxiety meltdown,,which may have triggered my copd,, symptoms just appeared, just shortness of breath sometimes for days at a time, and sometimes just for our 2hrs, had to go to ER ,,, chest x-ray ,,,EKG was all normal, doc. listened to my lu gss was also clear,,,could not explain why I was having shortness of breath. My question is does anybody know if stress causes COPD to appear out of the blue ,this is especially the first time I've had shortness of breath without wheezing and without much mucus,??? And inhaler ventolin not working,,, Also I want to know, has anyone ever went to a pulmonary rehabilitation program whereas it's a six to nine week program where they teach you how to breathe and use the exercise machines to help strengthen your muscle walls around your lungs and heart to cope with COPD,,,and is it covered by health insurance..,,,If so hoe effective was this program for u and hoe expensive if not covered by insurance...any response would be appreciated. ..I'm in California.

Hi no stress can't cause copd but it can make it worse. Copd is caused by damage to the lungs from most often smoking or from other things such as a genetic condition, working in certain occupations etc. I do believe it occasionally comes out of the blue maybe if you have very sensitive lungs.
Anxiety and stress can cause breathing problems on their own without copd so when you have both it's a double whammy. There are lots of good breathing exercises online for both copd and anxiety so why not have a google.
I went to PR and found it very helpful. We did exercises for around 45 minutes which are tailored to help strengthen your lungs, had a chat by a psychologist, and there was also a respiratory nurse to give a talk and answer any questions.
I am in the UK though so don't know how it works in the USA. We have the NHS here so no one pays for it. Good luck. x
Pulmo Rehab is covered by Medicare. Two 36 session periods are covered. Your doc writes a prescription. You would definitely be if it from education, exercise (at your own pace with O2), and interaction with other COPDers. The bbreathing you are doing is purses lip, but you need diaphragmatic breathing. It's pursed lip, but with stomach out when inhaling to draw in more air.

Thank u for ur reply,,,if this is my copd getting worst I will do this,,,but am not on Medicare, but do have insurance,,hope they cover for,,I hope early stage copd,,,,need to be tested to find stage I'm at,,,and to get a cardiologist,,thanks again
