Polycythemia & a Venesection.

I was rushed into hospital last week really poorly, I had Pneumonia! Two days before being discharged I was told I had Polycythemia? Never heard of it, I've to have a Venesection treatment! Again, never heard of it, seemingly I've not enough blood oxygen & to much Iron,

I think they have to give you a plasma transfusion for that right? You can have blood clots from that I think. Some of this is due to cancer, but it can also be caused by low blood oxygenation levels. You might have a secondary form of the condition. Here is a link that explains what the symptoms of Polycythemia is and what causes it. I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry for the short reply, my PC is playing up!! Anyway Blizzard I'll post what's what after I see him/her on Friday, I've to go to the nurse Tues to get blood taken but was told it's not like an ordinary blood test? So I'm very wary, very scared & very anxious about it all.

My father had this and would have to get blood transfusions. We didn't know a lot about this due to the fact he lived in another state and we rarely spoke to him.

I have been doing research on this to understand and find out information.
