I have been dealing with chronic rectal bleeding for at least 8 months, if not more. Been blown off by doctors. My family doctor finally sent me to a general surgeon who ordered a colonoscopy. Was instantly not a fan of him. My consultation was literally a minute long. He was very arrogant, and didn’t let me explain anything, and decided I had haemorrhoids. Well the colonoscopy didn’t even find anything, not so much as a single haemorrhoid. I have no follow up or anything and in the meantime I am still bleeding every single time I poop, what I feel is a decent amount of blood. My family dr told me I was anemic. Anyone experienced similar.? What could it be if they didn’t see anything when doing the colonoscopy? Any input is appreciated. Excuse the picture but this is an example of the amount of blood and sometimes I have clots, and more blood than this.

Thanks for posting with us. I hate to hear you are having these issues. Whenever there is blood in the stool, there needs to be a good answer for the cause. You are trying to do just that👍. If the physical exam and colonoscopy didn’t find the issue, then perhaps the need for an endoscopy is in order. The blood is coming from somewhere and just speculating about a cause isn't good. The endoscopy looks at conditions in the upper part of your digestive system. Could be something like a nasty ulcer. I had anemic issues and it ended up being caused by an ulcer at the opening of my duodenum. The endoscopy was able to find that.
After the comment of you being anemic, what was the proof of that? That can be caused by a lower-than-normal red blood cell count or even bleeding. Since you are obviously bleeding, that may be a cause. If it is bleeding, you still don’t know from where. That is what you need. Even if your red blood cells are low, you are still bleeding and need answers.
I very much hate to hear about your dealings with doctors. Did you get a FIT test to determine the detection of blood in the stool? It's usually common to be the first step in the diagnosis of blood. Since you are experiencing blood in the stool, it would have come back positive. So, that shouldn’t be a surprise. A positive FIT should lead to a physical exam and perhaps colonoscopy. If there is not a definitive answer for the bleeding from that, an endoscopy would need to be performed.
I do wish you the best in finding answers. You will have to advocate for yourself to get these tests done and get your answers. hi there thanks for your reply, I found out about the anemia from blood test, my family dr informed me when I went in to see her regarding the bleeding. Which I suppose explains why I am so tired all the time ! Yes I did have a fit test which came back abnormal, which I knew it would as I see blood every single time I go. I am near Niagara Falls Ontario. I have been offered no follow up after being told my colonoscopy was normal. So I guess next step is to call family dr again and tell her I am still bleeding and ask for further testing and more bloodwork to see where the anemia is at as well. I don’t know what else to do. Just seems doctors don’t follow through or care much anymore. Just feel like a number

Was it a full Colonoscopy or a sigmoidscope or other tool?!. The sigmoidscope is a shorter examination that looks at the the lower part of the colon!. But yes, anaemia, iron deficiency, arrogance of some consultants hasn't helped my journey of 8 Years. I eventually had these tests twice over including investigations of the colon, intestines and the stomach and they found alot of inflammation in many arears. You need answers.
I second the endoscopy request. My brother and mom had bleeding and was diagnosed with Barrets Disease after endoscopy. Its commonly found in people with GERD. They both drank heavily as well, but not sure if that had any relation to the cause of Barrets.
same here, going on 6 years of occasional bleeding. But I’ve chopped it up to hemorrhoids. Why because after my colonoscopy Dr found nothing casusing my bleeding. My rectum gets swollen if I sit for too long, which are the internal hemorrhoids that come out . I watch my diet and take Metamucil daily. If I don’t and strain I know I will bleed. I have it down like clock work. Besides if it was cancer I think I would be very sick right now or dead.
I’m sorry you are going through this as I am going through the same thing! I actually just finished making my own post about it. I don’t have anything to offer other than support. Hopefully we both get answers soon! As my post says, so frustrating!!!
