Rectal bleeding but clear colonoscopies (internal hems)

Hi everyone,

I’ve had bright bleeding for around 2.5 years now, it can coat the stool, be on wiping and sometimes drip into the bowl.

When all of this started I had 2 colonoscopies and an endoscopy which only found internal hems. I had banding done which helped a little but around 2 months later the bleeding started again.

The longest I have gone is a few months with nothing but recently it has been everyday.

I’m 28 weeks pregnant and since being pregnant the bleeding has been so often :( I can’t help but worry something has been missed and my anxiety is getting bad again.

I’m 28 and female x

Hello Murrayhurray20 ,Thank you for posting and I'm sorry to read about your symptoms and the anxiety they are causing you. I hope that other than the rectal bleeding, that you are having a healthy and happy pregnancy.

Have you had any type of scope (colonoscopy, endoscopy, or proctoscopy) after the banding procedure healed, but the bleeding started again?

Also, were any other issues such as anal fissures or a fistula discovered? We hear often that anal fissures can be very small, but still produce rectal bleeding.

Depending on what your medical team recommends based on your pregnancy as well as COVID risks, they may want to do a digital rectal exam or a proctoscopy until after you give birth.

I know this must be causing you a great deal of worry. While there may be some limitations on tests that they will perform due to your pregnancy and separately due to COVID, please do reach out to your specialist to see what your options are.

As you already know from this experience before, there are many possible reasons why one could have rectal bleeding. I know it is really hard not to jump to the worst possible outcome, but please try to channel that anxiety into getting doctor appointments.

Please keep us posted, we're thinking of you.

Hi can I ask what colour was your bleed? When you had internal piles? Did it hurt?

I still suffer with it. Bright red and it happens even when there is no pain. What about you?
