Hi Jpppp,

Thank you for posting on Colon Cancer Connected. I hate to see you have gotten these results but I also congratulate you on getting the tests done.👏 It means there is a high probability of having blood in the stool. There are many different things that could be causing this result. It is good information to know. The next critical steps are to find out the cause. Did your doctor express what the next steps would be. I would assume a colonoscopy would be in order if a physical exam is unable to determine the cause. If a physical exam does lead to a determination of the cause, you should be on some procedure to deal with it and eliminate it.

Another good thing to know is if there are hereditary disease or cancer history in your family. This would be good information for your doctor to know as well as this could lead to other tests which may need to be performed.

Also, you are young. That is definitely to your benefit. A diagnosis and testing path should be determined based on symptoms and never your age. Never accept is couldn’t be something because you are too young for that to be happening. It’s symptoms, not age that determine what needs to be addressed.🤔👍

I do wish you the best in finding out what’s going on. I am glad to see you are already seeking those answers. And please let us know what you find out. It is that type of information that can prove to be beneficial to others on the site.

Thank you,

~Tom, GCCA Survivor - Colon Cancer Connected Site Administrator.

What other issues could cause positive occult stool blood test

Overall, this means you have bleeding somewhere in your gastro tract. It could be due to ulcers, bulges, polyps (cancerous and precancerous) , inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hemorrhoids (piles), or possibly colon / bowel cancers . The key is finding it early.

I had an ulcer at the beginning of my small intestine just out of the stomach one time. It was the culprit for my iron loss. I had to get an endoscopy for that one. I do get an annual colonoscopy as a part of my surveillance to catch anything in reoccurrence. I have Lynch Syndrome which is hereditary and makes me a good candidate to get cancer. A colonoscopy is the best way to determine causes of things in the gastro tract.

Just to add to GCCA comprehensive reply, did yo have the fobt sample tests because that involves 3 samples. The new FIT test is usually one sample and is more determinant for blood in GI tract. Either way, you need answers, no doubt your dr is on your case. best wishes.
