I had all relevant test including poo samples blood test you name it I had it and they all came back negative - even rectum examination that suggested hemmoroids - all done in 2017 - then after scans and hospital appointments I was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in January 2018 - been through the chemo radiation and surgery and now in remission - it sounds to good to be true but it’s true I’m overwhelmed by it all, and now stop and think “did this really happen to me and what was the reason? Was it a wake up call? I don’t know, but I thank my lucky stars I’m still here with my family. I do need further follow up appointments and further scans which is a nightmare waiting for the results I been there so many times it’s torture. But there is hope and people do survive cancer - I really believe it’s pay back time now with cancer, research has come so far thanks to donations and all other stuff people do - keep fighting and all stay strong

That’s wonderful to hear 👍. It’s reassuring to hear success stories. I’m new to this forum. My mum has recently been diagnosed with bowl cancer & it has spread to her liver albeit a small amount. We as a family are devasted as she is our world and this news has catapulted us all into the unknown which is very scary. She started her chemo last Wednesday. She has 6 cycles of Folfox to do. I was wondering what drug you were treated with & how it affected you if you don’t mind me asking? Just trying to learn what we can about what to expect in the months ahead? Good luck with your future- I know the waiting after tests is horrible. Stay positive 😊

Hi there so sorry to here about your mum I know what your going through, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Initially everyone is thinking the same but your thinking will get better believe me - I don’t now how your mums mind set is but I think I was in denial and no one spoke about it I just got in with having my treatment would come home and carry on as normal well as normal as I could be! My chemo tablets were Capecitabine I had the usual side effects but nothing to extreme I also changed my diet I no longer eat red meat bacon sausage etc - I also started taking cannabis oil your mum needs to get on this also tell her to buy Apricot Kernels ( read up on these) I put everything into juicer and still do every morning and still take cannibis oil not as much maybe twice a week now - I did need a permanent stoma which is a little hard getting used to but if that what it takes to be alive well be it - I wish your mum well and you and your family 🙏 good luck 😉 Coor

Thank you so much for your reply. My mum had her 1st cycle of chemo last Wednesday and by Friday/Sat & Sunday she was feeling terribly nauseous & very low which watching on is really hard to deal with but obviously realise that this is the path that has to be taken & just hope & pray the medicine is doing it’s job. By Monday/Tuesday the nausea had subsided & by Wednesday (a week to the day of 1st cycle) she has returned to her old self and the nausea has passed. It’s just so hard not knowing what to expect but now that there is some sort of pattern it will give us a guide as to what to expect with each cycle. It’s overwhelming getting to grips with names of drugs & tablets but there is enough of us to help her along the way with that. I will read up on the apricot kernels & cannabis oil - the oil I have heard others mention on here before. I believe she will have radiotherapy after chemo & then surgery because of the presence in the liver maybe? Like you say a bag is a small price to pay to still be here even though I appreciate it may have took some getting used to. Before this she was a fit & well 70 year with no other conditions going about her everyday life & we are all trying to remain as positive as we can - just difficult in those darker times but we hope & pray for her to be clear and back to good health soon. She has changed her diet too and staying clear of red meat. Keep thinking positive and I’m glad your treatment is all behind you. Take care 😊

I have had Ulcerative colitis for 26 years. The last 6 months I have had bleeding in stools I had a colonoscopy in April and was told they banded 4 Hammeroids. I still had bleeding so they have me on steroids. I was in agony today on left side of bowel and sent to A&E they did chest x-ray and abdominal scan. Bloods normal. They said I was badly constipated. I use laxative as I don't go for up to 6 days but still now yellow and thin. I am so worried about cancer but I don't know if the tests they are doing will show it. I am only 44 but my bowel never works and I am scared to eat with the pain. I am just miserable I don't know where to go from here. I drink loads of water and eat lots of fruit and veg. Have lost two stone in 8 months without trying. I am just so worried. Could you advise anything x
