COVIDShot

I got a COVID shot yesterday afternoon and woke with chills at 4a.m. Eight hours later and I still feel terrible, chills, back ache, shoulder pain, overall lethargy. Immediately after the shot I took 2 Tylenol but that did not seem to have any effect. In order to warm up I had to turn my electric blanket to 5, usually 0 or 1. I am having trouble moving my arm. I think I have to go back to bed.

Any suggestions from anyone?

thank you,

Hi Dennis,

Alas; as far as I’m concerned, it’s “join the club”. When I got my shot on a Saturday afternoon it was Monday afternoon before I felt half normal again. Couldn’t get warm, didn’t eat, really sore arm and hadn’t the energy to leave my bed.

I sympathise and can only advise that you concentrate on the fact that come Monday there will be relief. I took paracetamol (dose as recommended on the package) and I attribute that to having helped me sleep through the nightmare.

Regard’s John.

I hope you are feeling better by now, but for what it's worth, both my husband (who is well) and I (CLL watch and wait) developed similar symptoms starting 14 hours after getting covid shots. Not after every covid shot, but after at least half of them. We were both feeling fine except for a sore arm within a day or so. Good luck!

Not sure this helps, but I have had similar reactions to previous Covid vaccines. I take ibuprophen and it helps. I got the shot yesterday, too, but had a milder reaction. Hope you're feeling better by now.

Did you have the MRNA or Novavax? My husband had Novavax on Thursday and has had zero side effects. Sorry to hear you are not feeling up to par. I think I made the right decision for him to go with the Novavax this time.

Sad to say, I don’t know.

Sounds like me after 7 VAX's. No headache? Yes, Tylenol is no help. Can only say stay hydrated & tough it thru. The upside is I use the couple of no-appetite down-days to fast.

I read something a while back that said if you have side effects after a vaccine it means an immune response. I’m sorry you’re having the response you are having but perhaps it’s a good thing. Perhaps it’s stimulating your immune system. I would see if you can find any information on it. Perhaps Neil would know. Take care. 🦋

The initial reactions to a vaccination are the result of our innate immune system's response. It's when our nodes swell, due to dentritic cells taking proteins from the vaccine to the germination centres in our lymph nodes, where CD4 helper T cells work with our dividing healthy B cells, causing our nodes to swell, that we get a benefit from vaccinations.

Thank you. I’ve had 5 COVID vaccines and never had any reactions. I made the assumption that the vaccines were not giving my immune system a response. I had the SARS Covid 2 Antibody (sp?) test after the second vaccine and saw no response with my B cells. My oncologist said that perhaps it stimulated the T cells but couldn’t test for that. T

That sounds very familiar. I try to book my Covid boosters for times when the next couple of days won’t need my attention. I drink lots of fluids, take the acetaminophen and just ride it out in bed for a couple of days. Hang in there - it will get better🙂

Received my Covid booster last Friday.... my arm is still mildly sore today (Monday)....

Yep sounds exactly like my experience with the vaccine. I’ve had 5 and every one has floored me for 3 days with chills, aches and pains. Take your usual painkillers and ride it out - it will pass but it’s pretty horrible.

I had my latest Covid vaccination 3 weeks ago and as usual, I had fever and body ache for 2 days. I've had Prizer and Moderna and they both give me the same reaction. Ironically many complain of arm soreness, but I do not experience that. I'm happy I did it since Covid infections are way up now.

(I also had RSV vaccine recently.)

thanks to all for comforting responses. Back to normal today.

The Novavax is a non MRNA not like Pfizer or Moderna. But the shot itself hurt. He had RSV yesterday no problem either. Hope you are feeling better
