Good Day All

I am 80 years old and have been on W & W for 5 years. I am considering taking a collagen supplement for joint pain in my knee.

Does anyone know of reason I shouldn't take collagen with CLL.

Thanks very much.

Hi, I know only one such reason. It's a waste of money. If you want collagen the easiest way is to get it from your food. The body decides where it goes and there are no guarantees that any of the collagen you might ingest will go into your knees or wherever else you wish it to go. Just eat collagen rich foods. It's easy to Google which ones are those. And avoids foods that cause inflammation. Just in case your knee pain is inflammatory. Inflammation is chiefly caused by all kinds of grains, vegetable oils, sugars (added as well as natural) and in some cases milk proteins. Stay away from all these.

Collagen is a protein particularly rich in glycine and prolines that, like any other protein, gets fully hydrolysed to amino acids in your stomach. It would only help you to take it if your diet is deficient in these amino acids. A less costly way to add collagen to your diet is to buy gelatin in the supermarket and add it to your porridge

Gelatin is made from pork skin mostly. Thus I prefer eating pork knuckles, pork belly and crispy animal skin of all kinds, to dumping gelatin on porridge 🙂

I realize that everyone is different with different opinions and experiences, but I (diagnosed with CLL in 1997) take a collagen supplement, and it has really helped my shoulders. There is still some discomfort depending on movement, but nothing like it was. Funny thing, it didn't help stiffness in my hips, but a supplement I purchase from my chiropractor has been beneficial for them. Another funny thing, after taking the chiropractor supplement for 2 years, it didn't help my shoulders...didn't notice an improvement until I switched to the collagen, but after about 4 months, I added back the chiropractor supplement for my hips. Just thought I would mention a different experience....

Hope it helps...I am typically one that never notices a difference, so I was surprised that the collagen does seem to help me. The other benefit I noticed are stronger finger nails.
