I am a 66 year old male who has been in W and W for 5 years now. I have noticed recently that my sense of smell is not what it used to be. Anyone else had this issue please?

Losing sense of smell
I have had diminishing loss of smell and taste, although the taste was caused by shingles on the V2 nerve of the face... and palsy..
You might have your B12 levels checked... it is associated with reduced ofactory function, but mostly it is aging...
Good article on this
Thank you for this post Clovelly
I had noticed a diminishing sense of smell and put it down to chemotherapy treatment. Reading the article Chris linked to I think it is more than possible that we can lay some of this at the door of our cll.
I can still smell the May bloom when I walk, and opening a new jar of coffee is down to me as I love that smell. However, since I noticed smell deterioration the coffee does have different notes and is not so pleasant as it once was.
I am older than you and hope that your sense of smell does not deteriorate further for some years.
Chris thanks for the link, I shall remember it and remove the salt cellar from my dining table at mealtimes in case I have reduced taste too.
Best wishes

I recently had an example of diminished smell, a friend came for a visit and after 'Hello' they said 'What stinks in here... !!'
Well It turned out that on my morning walk I had stepped in some ripe animal excrement and it stuck to my shoe...
I smelled nothing... but my visitor gagging ... threw my shoe out side... 😜

A friend of ours would enter a room and say "there's a smell of updoc in here " and then wait for someone else say "what's up doc"
There's always someone who will fall for it.
