3rd or booster

I am chasing up my status regarding 3rd + booster or just 2 + booster. I had 2 AZ early 2022 and a pfizer 'booster' on 1/11. I didn't care so much what they called it as I understood the dose was the same, and further that yes its a half dose for moderna booster over moderna 3rd primary dose. So my haematology dept got in touch today and this lady said she wasn't sure could I now get a booster as I'd already had it, and that it was a reduced dose.

I think she's wrong, no offence to the lady but I'd expect her to know so please put me right.

Is there a distinction between the Pfizer when administered as a 3rd dose or as a booster?

She is checking with the hospital vaccination coordinator where I can get a fresh shot. As I told her, and have said here, I'm more concerned that I am recorded correctly for WHEN I become infected more than getting the 4th shot/ booster.

What I'm experiencing suggests I may not be.

Admin issue. (Not our admin team of course!)

Pfizer 3rd dose = Pfizer booster.

If you call yr 3rd jab a dose, you can have a booster.

I had AZ x 2

Pfizer x 2

Infact Pfizer is used in cases where its uncertain whether a 3rd dose or booster needed. As in cases of drug induced immune impairment and that is dose of drug depending (nightmare - 1000s going thru vacc centres)

Moderna clearly would be problematic in this case.

Your GP or Haematologist can override and fix this for you.

Thanks, just as I understood then.

See the following link: (scroll to September 22, "The difference between a booster jab and the third dose") which may help you, or still confuse the issue:

As I understand it we are eligible for 4th dose.. But nhs database for vaccines doesn't have the facility to record 3rd dose as such only as a boosterI took a note from my gp to say I needed a 4th dose to a walk in centre when it was due and I had no problems getting a full dose Pfizer jab.. Which BTW wad recorded as a second booster on the computer!! Try your gp for a note I have found hematology aren't that up to date with Covid ins nd outs

Hi. I feel your frustration! We were in the same situation for my husband .He was due a 4th jab at the end of December, but his records showed he had already had the booster 🤦‍♀️.

It took me a few weeks of asking, but eventually our GP practice was able to book him in for a 4th.

I get the impression that so many people had been asking that they now understood, or maybe instructions were filtering through at last…

Good luck!

I am now fighting to try to get him a priority Covid test to keep at home and am praying that he will be able to access the antibodies if it becomes necessary.

Stay safe,

Things do seem to be coming together, but like so many on here, I've had to chase after it. Its necessary of course but I feel these are busy people and this shouldnt need to be done if it was done right in the first place.

I have receieved notification that my PCR kit is due to be delivered today. I'll update as to what it is. I will be very surprised if its identified as a priority test but at least I will have a kit.

I feel fortunate and still hope I will fair OK but that its foolhardy not to have things in place.

I feel great empathy to those who may not be so clinically in as good a position and still struggling to get this addressed.

Best of luck to all.

EDIT::::

PCR kit has arrived, initially optomistic as it was in a purple bag but have found nothing to say it is a priotity kit. Still so long as the testing isnt overwhelmed I guess I wont see a delay in getting a result.

Same as mine was too.. Think the purple bag may be for standard tests to keep by just in case.. They promised me a priority test but it was a preregistered test in a purple bag that turned up sadly

I've been very lucky; I had 1st and 2nd O-AZ last year. Then I got an e-mail from NHS England calling me for a 3rd primary which was Pfizer-Biontech in October. Then three months and one day after my 3rd Primary, I got a 'phone call offering me my 4th so I had it a day later and this one was also Pfizer-Biontech. My record showed all 3 previous vaccinations and 2 days after the 4th, my NHS vaccination passport showed all 4 with batch numbers and doses.
