Hello,

Need some advice;

My other half has the normal cirrhosis problems however he now also has more wrong with him.

An Inguinal Hernia.

He also needs surgery: core decompression which is a surgical procedure used to treat osteonecrosis, or avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip.

The medical staff have been fantastic but im really worried.

Anyone had any of these complications.

I understand your worries and I hope your husband's issues can be resolved soon.My husband has cirrhosis with ascites and an inguinal hernia along with an umbilical hernia. We have been told by two medical teams that they will not operate on his inguinal hernia while he has ascites as there is a high risk of leakage. We now suspect this is what happened to a friend of his in Germany who had this operation many years ago and had serious post-op issues. Unfortunately his ascites isn't responding to diuretics partly I think because he finds it so hard to give up salt. So they are currently considering a TIPS.

If your husband also has ascites I would be interested to hear what your medical team say about the hernia. I really hope that you can get some peace of mind soon.

I'm compensated with no ascites and had a double inguinal hernia repair done by keyhole surgery in March of 2023. Other than some very colourful bruising everything went to plan without any complications.

Good luck to your husband.

My husband with decompensated cirrhosis had inguinal hernia repair last April, followed by hip replacement in June. At the time, all of his bloodwork was great and no ascites. He recovered well from both procedures. His hernia surgeon did comment that is was a bit “squishy in there” as his diuretics had been reduced for a couple of months. He promptly went back to his previous dose before undergoing the hip replacement. His recovery was remarkable. Unfortunately he didn’t listen to his doctors and overworked himself and wound up with sepsis. Just remind your other half to be mindful of the recovery process and that those with cirrhosis need to take extra care of themselves.
