It has been 3 weeks since my Fibroscan and still no report. How long did it take to get your results. My ferritin was over 1200, down to 520 after 3yrs. I had 6 years of iron infusions that my hematologist is concerned is iron overload. My saturation for iron is normal, as is my iron levels. HH was negative and liver enzymes are normal and always have been. NAFLD runs in my family. I have ate healthy for over 12yrs on gf, df diet due to allergies and celiac disease. In the past 3yrs been on low fod map diet. I haven't drank alcohol in over 15yrs but used to be a heavy drinker.
How long until you got your fibroscan results? If there is NAFLD or similar, since I eat and drink healthy what else could be done?

Your fibroscan scores and result should have been available immediately but the result will need to have been compared with all your previous results as ongoing inflammation can falsify the results. Have you tried chasing this up with whoever ordered the test for you?
This was my first fibroscan. I have called with no further movement. I have nothing to compare this scan to. All I have is my high ferritin. No ultrasounds or biopsies or other imaging have taken place. I was sent to GI but he ordered a colonoscopy and endoscomy instead.
The machine on the day would have provided 10 readings and the median of the 10 readings would have provided a kPa score there and then (if the machine did it you may also get a CAP score which is the amount of fatty change in the liver). This result should have been relayed back to your referring doctor for comparison against blood tests. You probably need further tests to establish any sort of firm diagnosis as fibroscan alone cannot provide a definitive answer.
I am not a candidate for CT scans due to allergies and they said they have done all the bloodwork available. That is why the Fibroscan was used. So I am unsure what next.
The scan took about 1 minute. 10 beeps and that was it.
Fibroscan isn't the most useful of tools as a standalone tool. If your liver inflammation markers are raised it can falsely elevate the kPa score. That's why any result from fibroscan needs to be looked at in conjunction with blood tests. An ultrasound would be an alternative scan to look for signs of fibrosity or blood flow changes etc.
If there is fatty liver present then healthy eating and exercise are your main methods of treatment.
I already do those things so what does a patient do if they already are? I was told Fibroscan was the most useful interesting. Thank you for that info.
Are you in the USA? In England after you have a fibroscan the technician gives you a piece of paper with the score on. Mine was 17.5 and I got a letter about 3 weeks after to see a consultant who then arranged for further tests. Good luck, Mike.
Me too, my technician showed me the fibroscan on the machine as soon as it was done and compared it to her chart. I was at 19 kPa. She said 'I'll see you next year for another scan'. I said 'If I'm alive then' to which she replied ' oh, you will be, and you'll be better.'
Thank you all. The hematologist ordered the fibroscan and finally got the results which showed everything was good. However, the nurse stated that fibroscans are not diagnostic and not meant to dx liver issues only to confirm other tests. So he said I needed to ask for an U/S. Has anyone here had a normal fibroscan but an abnormal liver U/S?
