hi guys

Are you on any treatment for it? Lactulose or Rifaximin? High ammonia levels can arise as your body breaks down your own muscles for fuel (also with consuming red meat) plus as your liver struggles to keep on top of getting rid of toxins. It's important to keep up a good carb and protein rich diet so as to keep your muscles from being burned up by your liver illness.
High ammonia can lead to symptoms of a condition called Hepatic Encephalopathy that can affect you in a great many ways. BLT has a very useful page about it:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...
Remember to keep well hydrated - my hubby is currently in hospital after an acute HE episode because he'd become dehydrated after starting Metformin.
Definitely push for some dietary advice regarding your liver condition and see if you need the medications for toxin build up if you arn't on them already.

I was hospitalized due to high ammonia levels in the 400 range which was due to portal hypertension I ended up vomiting blood from GI tract and learned it was from varices which I had to get banded suggestions it was from spicy food, or red meat since I stopped those I've been fine a prescription for lactulose got my digestive system back in order I hope you're doing better or gotten better before I sent this response
My husband also has portal hypertension. In the fall he overdid the exercise (too much hiking) and forgot to have his protein drink and extra water. This caused a drop in electrolytes, spike in his ammonia level and he suffered a seizure. Fortunately he’s back to normal, but mandatory suspension of his drivers license for six months. Long story short, don’t neglect your diet!
